Donald Trump was adamant in stating that, if a second wave of the coronavirus hits the United States, he wont shut the economy down again.
CNBC reported on the presidents visit to a Ford plant in Michigan.
People say thats a very distinct possibility, its standard, Trump said when asked about a second wave during a tour of a Ford factory in Michigan.
We are going to put out the fires. Were not going to close the country, Trump said. We can put out the fires. Whether it is an ember or a flame, we are going to put it out. But we are not closing our country.
This bug is a persistent little pest. It spreads very easily from person to person, indicating several different ways someone can become infected. And with so many people walking around who have it but dont know it and dont feel it, its not just going to disappear any time soon.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, told The Washington Post this week that he has no doubt there will be new waves of cases.
The virus is not going to disappear, he told Post. Its a highly transmissible virus. At any given time, its some place or another. As long as thats the case, theres a risk of resurgence.
If it were up to him and the vast majority of public health professionals, the people would be locked in their homes and almost all businesses would be shuttered. It worked in China. It wont work here.
Trump may want the country to remain open when the second wave of infections arrives, but ultimately, the decisions are the governors to make.

I would say have drugs ready by fall.
You can bank on a second wave if the economy starts to recover.
I hope he fires whoever advised him to go along with Fauci and Co. for as long as he did. That would be a good Step One.
Doesn’t the first wave have to end for there to be a second?
What does that even mean?
If Covid flares up in the fall then there is nothing to do but ride it out. States are not going to shut down again. Any governor who did so absent another federal disaster proclamation, which there won't be one, would be ridden out of the state on a rail. They'll have no cover from Trump and no help from the federal government and definitely no support from their people.
With adequate testing available, theres no reason to shut the whole country down.
There is going to be enormous pressure on governors when there are spikes in infections and deaths from the virus. To Republican governors, the media will be screaming about them not caring about people dying.
Were already seeing the beginnings of that narrative play out in Georgia and Florida, where GOP governors have to face stories every day about how dangerous their actions are.
For Trump, it plays into his re-election campaign. With the stock market booming this past week on promising news of a vaccine, the economy has a real chance of roaring back to life. While Biden sits in his basement conducting a virtual campaign, Trump has already begun to hit the trail. Soon, his signature rallies will begin and the battle will be joined in earnest.
With or without, there will be no political will to shut the country down.
I have doubts on the “highly transmissible” part. I have been out to MANY stores since the “pandemic” and have crossed paths with many people, yet I still haven’t gotten the bug. I think that someone would have to cough or sneeze directly into your face for you to catch it. Casual contact by just walking by an infected person WILL NOT infect you.
No, but they will look like the tyrants they are if they do.
You can bank on a second wave if the economy starts to recover.

Two things. First it is not “if” because the economy will recover. Second the Democrats mishandled the crisis. In their efforts to hurt President Trump all they have done is damaged their own states as well hurt their supporters.
Both California and New York are in financial trouble because of the closed economy. The geniuses did not realize that it was people buying and selling, and working that kept the states money machine full. In New York it is reported that up to 40% of the wealthiest New Yorkers left the state.
Their heavy handed one size fits all approach did nothing to endear them to the voters. As we see civil disobedience in these heavily Democrat control areas it would be political suicide to try and lock down their citizens again.
The American people were caught by surprise and were stampeded by overblown stories on how we are all going to die.
By the time it became clear that the virus while contagious was not as lethal as they claimed (Most of those who died were already impaired by something else we were already under “house arrest”.
No, the Democrats had their one shot and it missed the President.
RE: have been out to MANY stores since the pandemic and have crossed paths with many people, yet I still havent gotten the bug.
Have you gotten yourself tested? If not, it would be good to make sure. A huge portion of the population are asymptomatic but infected. You could be too.
There will be no closures after the November election.
If Trump wins, he’ll keep everything open and laugh at the press because whatever they say, it will no longer matter.
If Biden wins, everything will stay open because the Dems know damned well that the reason for closing was never to flatten the curve, but rather wreck the economy and hope that Trump would get the blame.
Unless a vaccine is found, just as we have a Flu season every year, there may be a COVID-19 season each year. We are we supposed to do? Shut down the country every year during COVID season?
When will PDJT lift the federal disaster proclamation? It gives hime some power, but it seems to give the governors almost dictatorial power.
The expanded testing will help but may be insuffient with 1/3 of cases asymptomatic.
He is talking about Fauci here, right?
You may have had it and not even known it. The ampunt of public transit drivers that have contracted it disprove your assertion.
He’s going to have to open the country first in order to not re-close it.
And that’s going to require smacking governors like Whitmer, Wolf, Pritzker and Murphy upside the head.
