I am calling it the Blues Brothers curse.
Every retailer in their famous mall car chase scene has gone bankrupt.
JCPenny, Pier 1, ToysRus, etc.

Nice going democrats.
Seems like they’ve been on the edge of bankruptcy for decades. Not surprising this would finish them off.
Great...
When times are bad it is the marginal players that get cut. Except from Government.
I spent a lot of time as a kid in the 70’s outfitting my room from Pier 1......Loved the smell of the place, exotic!
I was in a Pier 1 back in January (in Texas). There was a big banner in fron of the store. It said something to the effect the the storevwasclosing, and all merchandise was being liquidated. I went inside to look around. The biggest markdown I saw was -20%. Not exactly “going out of business” savings.
Went in one about a year ago, looking for a wastebasket. Didn’t have any.
Your plot to destroy America in order to "Get Trump" is working so well😡.
It’s a cool place to walk around checking out the merchandise and all but they have been going out of business for at least 20 years now.
I guess that the intentional Chinese virus finally did them in....like MANY other businesses.
There is a stand-alone store less than a mile from me here on RT. 1 in Norwood, MA.
Been there for a looong time.
Will be sad to see it finally go..
Already a few long term empty storefronts on this stretch of road i imagine that the building will remain empty for a while..
Finally some good news. Hate that store.
I wandered into the first Pier One I saw in Connecticut back in the early ‘90s. Even then, it looked like its only pier was in Red China. Imports indeed.
Hope my 48” diameter tempered glass tabletop doesn’t break.
Pier 1 was an interesting place 40 years ago. Back then having a store full of import merchandise was distinctive. Now it’s just the norm.
Maybe Pier 1 should rebrand itself as Pier X and sell only USA made products. That would be an edgy move.
Chinese tchotchkes.
Pier 1 was cool back in the 70’s and 80’s when “Imported” meant it was out of the ordinary.
From the 90’s on Asia* flooded the market with mass produced crap and made Pier 1 just another store.
*mainly China.
Pier 1 was always a fun place to browse but I cant say I ever bought much there. Guess that was the problem.
