It's all about protecting others
...
We asked Steven Gordon, MD, Chairman of Cleveland Clinics Department of Infectious Disease, and pulmonologist Raed Dweik, MD, Chairman of Cleveland Clinics Respiratory Institute, about the science around these masks and why wearing them is important.
'''
There is evidence that such masks reduce the exhaled aerosols from infectious, but asymptomatic, individuals. he says. By blocking the exhale of virus particles in to the air around you, your mask is keeping the virus from spreading.
Additionally, the masks serve as a really helpful physical barrier when you cough or sneeze. Those actions can propel this cloud of droplets from you up to 25 or 26 feet, he says. Your mask can disrupt that cloud and keep those virus particles from traveling.

Agreed. I use Startpage for just that reason.
You are indeed a “snowflake” because snowflakes are statists and conformists. I never called you a name. You started it.
But let us return to discussion, and this is my concluding point. My father fought in three wars. He was a marine’s marine. He nearly died on Guadalcanal, lost a finger in Korea, and let a battalion of snot nosed boys in South Vietnam in the 1965 landing. He didn’t take one single casualty in that last engagement. My father would be sick seeing people walking around wearing masks in the country he nearly died for. And I echo those views.
I wish you well and bid you good evening. My best to you sincerely.
Yeah, mine too.
Sooner or later nearly everybody will be exposed to the virus. The “esteemed” Dr. Fauci said so himself back when this was about “flattening the curve.”
His words paraphrased “We are only drawing out the infection rate so that hospitals don’t get overwhelmed. Eventually the same number of people will get infected and the same number will die.”
Good point. But what about those people who where those things cover their necks and goes around their whole heads? I don’t know man. Something just doesn’t sound right about the whole thing.
This article is about masks. Hand hygiene and not touching your face are still recommended.
The masks provides a physical barrier to touching the nose or mouth. Viruses don’t infect you from the side of the face. They don’t protect you from touching your eyes.
The masks provide a reminder not to touch the face.
Not sure about gloves. The virus isn’t going to infect your hand. It’s going to infect a body opening when you touch the opening with your hand or gloved hand.
Oh, I think suggesting that I’d be comfortable on Slave Republic” was sufficient insult.
I’m glad that you had a father of whom you can be proud.
And I’ll continue to wear a mask in the grocery store, and be grateful to the others who do so.
Best wishes to you, as well.
The data on the patients came from the hospitals not from Cuomo. As with any data it is not available for us to closely examine. However it is clear that the majority of cases were not from people who were out at bars, or partying but were from people who were limiting contact as much as possible.
I think that people with risk factors should consider sheltering but others would be better to go out into the world having taken Vitamin D & C and perhaps zinc. That is what we have done since time immemorial in the face of many other infections and pandemics.
It makes no difference what the article is about. Masks are useless because hands are the prime vector. You can talk all day about washing your hands but no one can keep from touching their face, rubbing their eyes, nose or ears. And since this “article” is about asymptomatic carriers of the virus then washing your hands is 100% useless.
Yale and Harvard are Ivy League institutions that have been in the hands of leftists for generations. They are heavily funded by tax free foundations founded by either tech giants or old school Robber Barons whose descendants became limousine liberals. A few months ago, the Justice Department accused Dr. Charles Lieber, the chair of Harvard’s Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department, of lying about working with several Chinese organizations, where he collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from Chinese entities. Of course, this is just an accusation, but it may be just another example of the corruption of elite institutions.
As I have posted (and received viliFRication many times) since early March:
Here is the reality:
Almost EVERYONE will be "exposed"
SOME of the "exposed" may be symptomatic
SOME of the symptomatic may get really sick
A FEW of the really sick might die.
In my state 69% of the deaths are folks in nursing homes
Unfortunate?
Yes.
But no reason to make us look like Muslim women!
Actually what the article says is that it prevents as many particles from entering the atmosphere from asymptomatic people.
It apparently assumes symptomatic people aren’t out and about.
If all the infectious people wear masks, there will be fewer particles in the environment to get on your hands in the first place.
Hogwash! Or would that be backwash?
Either way the masks are a joke for the average person.
Infect a hand? Your hands spread the virus to every surface they touch. If you're asymptomatic and have the virus you don't even have to touch your face to have virus on your hands. They're coming out of every pore on your body.
Wrong. 100% wrong. If you have the virus it’s coming out of your sweat glands on every square inch of your skin. And it is surfaces that lead to the vast majority of transference not aerosols. Period.
If your already infected, the mask does YOU no good. But it helps those around you from becoming infected.
I wasn’t talking about an infected person’s hand or glove.
it’s primary means of spreading is droplets and aerosols when you speak.
Why aren’t criminals sitting in prison wearing masks then instead of being freed to spread the disease?
Posting lies is his stock-in-trade.
It would be cruel and probably dangerous to make anyone wear a mask 24 hours a day. Prisons weren’t designed for infection control.
