ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) A single mother in Kent County is calling for Menards to reconsider a policy that prevented her from shopping with her kids on Mothers Day.
As soon as the doors opened, I was approached by an employee in a mask and she said, You cant shop here with your kids. And I was just like, What? And she said, Were not allowing children in at this point,' Neisa, who asked to be identified only by her first name, told News 8 Monday.
She said she and her two kids were attempting to buy supplies for a Mothers Day craft. They were all wearing masks, which Menards is also requiring as part of its COVID-19 response policies.
Neisa contacted News 8 after deciding to shop elsewhere. She wasnt comfortable leaving her kids in the car and theyre too young to be home alone, she said.
That really upset me because I was like, wow, OK. Im a single parent trying to make today cool when we cant go anywhere, Neisa said. I just hope they change it because I really do feel like its prejudice. Theyre taking it too far.
Both in stores and online, Menards has posted a notice that states, We are no longer able to allow children under the age of 16, nor pets, in the store due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Service pets are still allowed. The posting goes on to say people who look under 16 will be asked to show identification.

Service pets are far better behaved than most kids I’ve seen these days.
the old farts are the ones who should be banned....

Sure you are- just do it- the world won’t end-
“A single mother in Kent County is calling for Menards to reconsider a policy that prevented her from shopping with her kids on Mothers Day.”
Meanwhile, her kids are requesting that this policy be implemented on that day on annual basis?
So... ban the least susceptible, welcome the most susceptible. Makes at least as much sense as releasing criminals and arresting stylists.
Private business can make any exclusion they want. that is constitutional. Yes, they have to abide for purposes of business with the Americans With Disabilities act and you cannot do so just because of race and or sex and or religion and so forth, but they CAN say no kids. Its even handed, not pointed to just one sect but to ALL.
The policy may be stupid, but it has nothing to do with being a single mom.
No Single Mom martyr badge for her!
this young woman should win a big lawsuit and I hope she does....and I hope Karma gives a big whack to the numbskulls who think discrimating an age group in a shopping area is a good idea....
and I like how they lump children and pets in the same forbidden category....
and we say we love children in this country...NOT....
and we bemoan our birthrate and yet this crap goes on....
Married couples arent allowed to bring in their kids either.
I’ve stopped going to Menard’s until they stop this asinine policy.
Wow,,looks like Menards caught the same tyranny bug as the Governor....
Precisely.
This is a policy our local hospitals enact during flu outbreaks, but I didn’t know home stores were doing it.
Has zero to do with “single moms.”
in the stores that have limited how many folks can enter, i think it would be ok to say no to kids.
If you come in with 4 kids, you count as 5 bodies. Your kids are NOT shopping, just tagging along.

Boycott Menards.
Relax Karen. Its temporary. Besides. Shopping online is the way to go.
GFY, Cherry.
Old Fart
It’s their store, so I have no problem with this.
If you take a look at our local Walmart you’ll see mom with three to six kids in tow. All running around without a mask or other precautions. My lovely wife and I stay away from any environment like that,
