Congress is looking to help struggling local newspapers, TV and radio stations qualify for federal coronavirus aid, according to people familiar with the matter.
The coming coronavirus legislation expected to be introduced in the House as soon as this week will include a provision to expand newspapers’ and broadcasters’ eligibility for forgivable small business loans, the people said.
Meanwhile, Sens. Maria Cantwell (D., Wash.) and Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.) are working to find ways to move the proposal forward in the Republican-controlled Senate.
“The Covid-19 crisis has shown us how essential local news and information is to us,” Ms. Cantwell said. “Now is not the time to cut newsroom jobs critical to giving the public regional data and news on Covid-19 outbreaks.”

Newspapers were in big trouble financially before this virus hit. Impacts of a virus may just be magnifying trends that were already happening.
The radio business has been struggling in recent years, as listening audience as declined partly due to satellite radio, partly due to people listening to podcasts , as opposed to listening to terrestrial radio stations.
So where the heck do we draw the line as far as Federal bailouts for state governments , City governments , and various business sectors?

People over 57 will just have to bug their kids to set-up existing alternatives then, because those industries dont need a dime.
Imagine if this came with strings attached — President Trump says, “I’ll sign the bill and get you your money, but you have to promote my policies.”
The media would be outraged (as they should be) and would totally reject that idea.
What the media wants is money from President Trump so that they can promote the Democrat policies. Because that’s double-plus good.
