OAK PARK, Ill. (AP) Kate Maehr has never seen anything like it: lines stretching for blocks as people, many with children, inch forward to get boxes of food they hope will last until the next giveaway, until the next paycheck or until they can get government food assistance.
Its just heartbreaking, said Maehr, executive director of the . Theyre finding themselves in a set of circumstances where they have no income and they also have no food, and it happened in an instant.
The number of people seeking help from her organization and affiliated food pantries has surged 60% since the start of the pandemic, which has shut down the nations economy and thrown tens of millions of people out of work. Even those who are working often struggle. Two in 10 working adults said that in the past 30 days, they ran out of food before they could earn enough money to buy more. One-quarter worried that would happen.

ship the corn that’s not being converted to ethanol because demand is down, to the food banks.
Maybe set up some additional distribution points.
A little context, Oak Park is a nice upper middle class white neighborhood, but it’s surrounded on two sides by the ghetto. So that may explain why so many are lining up for the food pantries there instead of the one a mile south or a mile east.
An old story. Ants v. grasshoppers.
And media and Asspress. Don’t forget them. It’s depression time in the media.

Can the Fearpers tell me if anyone has ever died of starvation?

Yet we have farmers plowing their perfectly good crops into the ground.
Not to be mean but there’s people in that line that could go 30 days without food and not die.
“Can the Fearpers tell me if anyone has ever died of starvation”
No one I ever knew. How about you? How about anyone here on FR? In fact when is the last time anyone free to walk around in America died of starvation?
Starvation is one of China’s political tactics - same with North Korea. I doubt anyone in the United States has died of starvation in the last 50 years. This isn’t a hellhole culture like China.
But if it saves only one 95 year old from COVID 19 it is worth it (sarc).
20 years ago Venezuela was the most prosperous country in Central and South America yet now the Venezuelan people are starving thanks to communism. If you do not think that this can happen in America it is starting right now.
All because of a Chinese virus that is a little worse than the yearly flu. Those who live in fear should hang their heads in perpetual shame.
Colorize it and it’s 2020
20 years ago Venezuela was rich and now their people are starving and fleeing as refugees because of socialism. You are right that Americans have not died of starvation for decades now because we are not a leftists hellhole. However all of that can change because of the fear that some people promote which is enabling leftists to lockdown our economy thereby destroying small businesses, the middle class, and the working poor.
Hypochondriac fear mongers are playing the lefts game and should rightly be called useful idiots of the leftists and be shunned.
Can the people not see what the government is doing?
Historically, poverty meant emaciation. The poor in America are MUCH more likely to be obese than emaciated.
