This story is getting better and better — for those who enjoy David vs. Goliath contests where Goliath gets a faceful of cow manure from David.
That’s what Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer must be feeling like today. The 77-year old barber, Karl Manke, who is defying her executive orders to keep his business closed is beset on all sides by the state. He was taken to court by the state who asked a judge to order Manke to close his doors. The judge refused. Then, Whitmer sicced the Department of Health on him. He refused to comply.
Finally, after the close of business on Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs made good on Whitmer’s threats.
Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has suspended Karls license, attorney David Kallman told radio host Steve Gruber.
Not thinking about it, theyve actually done it without a hearing, without any due process, he added, saying the action took place some time after 5:00 p.m.
Its an unbelievable abuse of power, Kallman said, arguing theres no legal basis for the action.
This is pure retribution by the governors office and by the AG. This is so petty and vindictive, its beyond the pale, he told Gruber.
Isn’t it kind of unconstitutional to take this action without even going through the motions of “due process, governor “?
What’s the matter with you? Don’t you know we’re in a CRISIS? We don’t need no stinkin’ constitution to enforce my orders.

RE: Let them put a 77 year old in jail over this. Just let them.
Look what we’ve become as a society -— we lock up Women who want to feed their children by opening their hair salons and 77 year old barbers who just want to make a living, and then, we let felons and criminals out of jail for fear that they will contract Covid-19 in jail !!
RE: This is EXACTLY what the Pennsylvania governor has threatened to do to those that dare open.
The restaurant owner in Maine who opened his business with responsible social distancing in place just lost his business license.
Needed surgery is postponed and our hospitals are struggling financially but abortion mills are an essential service.
Social Distancing >> SOCIALIST DISTANCING
That’s a gem...undocumented barber
He has local customers. You don’t go somewhere else and have people banging on the door to get haircuts. He’s 77 and established where he is.
Good! I figured he did, but just wanted to emphasize that if he DID decide to relocate, he’d be welcomed with open arms anywhere he decided to go.
I still don’t think the whole matter is going to end well for What’s-Her-Face.
When do they drag her - kicking and screaming - from her office and physically remove her from her position as “governor?” Apparently that’s what it’s going to take.
Liberals love to attack the Constitution and whittle away at our freedoms.
> Keep the shop open. Keep cutting hair. A license is just a piece of paper ... that you pay for. Let them put a 77 year old in jail over this. Just let them.
Exactly. In fact the sheriff intends to enforce nothing and a judge has likewise ruled. The license is beneath meaningless here, not heartbreaking.
If the customers like the service and the conditions he stays in business.
I went to a barber until he was in his late 70’s . . . the haircuts were tragic.
Ya, I was going to mention tar and feathers...
Ya, I was going to mention tar and feathers...
You have to back in Michigan history to the George Romney days to find a one-term governor, and he ran for President instead.
Romney beat rat Swainson in 1962 so we haven’t a one-term guv in MI for over 50 years. Few alive in MI today would even know that.
It is almost fair to say that Whitmer will be the first one-term governor in modern history, or over a half century. And it was a democrat.
The nice thing about riding her out of town tarred and feathered on a rail is that, with the rail, you can maintain social distancing.....
Speak easy barbers coming.
A buddy of mine likes to frequent cigar lounges.
A week or so ago, they “opened”. Against the local rules.
Only regulars that the owner knows are let in. And the front of the place is dark.
“Looks like women have no wisdom to speak of. Dreadful leadership!”
That’s definitely true in this case, but is also definitely NOT true of all women. Gov. Kristi Noem of SD is one example. I’ll grant you that the “good” ones are the exceptions rather than the rule. But when they’re good, they’re REALLY good.
Guillotine!
Guillotine!
Go big or go home.
