Pennsylvania governor threatens to withhold coronavirus aid to counties that defy lockdown orders

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf lashed out Monday at counties in the Keystone State that are defying his shutdown order and moving ahead with reopening businesses – threatening to withhold coronavirus aid and saying they are "choosing to desert in the face of the enemy."

Breaking from his normal, mild-mannered tone, the Democratic governor expressed his anger on Monday with a number of local elected officials who have said they will buck Wolf’s staggered reopening plan. Wolf said the defiant county officials were “operating illegally” and “jeopardizing the lives of citizens of those counties.”

“To those politicians who decide to cave in to this coronavirus, they need to understand the consequences of their cowardly act," Wolf said at a press briefing where he threatened to hold back funding to the counties bucking his plan. “They are engaging in behavior that is both selfish and unsafe.”

God bless these PA counties. I hope they tell Wolf-Man and She-Dude to stuff their state aid.

So you want a sort of reverse Gestapo approach? Rather than resolve it through the legal process of law suits and resolution by the courts, or better yet the voting process by the people? The emergency powers need to be challenged, but there is a process. The states in several cases voted their governors these powers. States do bear most of the responsibility to fix it. The fed powers can come in to protect civil rights, but I am not sure how that power can be abused in the future.

In 2018 the Republicans ran Scott Wagner against Wolf. Wagner was a total unlikeable big mouth who came across as a know it all bully. I did not like Wagner but I did vote for him against Wolf.

Wolf said the defiant county officials were “operating illegally”

They are operating with much more authority than Wolf. The people in these counties want to get back to work. They support their county officials. They do NOT support Wolf.

Wolf would lose his governorship if the election were held today.

Something to think about, an article I came across.

I’ve partially complied when I thought it was about my health and of
course I was concerned for my family with this unknown virus “invading” our country. When I found out the number of COVID deaths were being exaggerated for monetary purposes, the lightbulb went on.

This will make you think...

When the State tells you it’s safe to go to Home Depot to buy a sponge but dangerous to go and buy a flower, it’s NOT about your health.

When the State shuts down millions of private businesses but doesn’t lay off a single government employee, it’s NOT about your health.

When the State bans dentists because its unsafe, but deems abortion
Visit is safe, it’s NOT about your health.

When the State prevents you from buying cucumber seeds because it’s dangerous, but allows in person lottery ticket and alcohol sales, it’s NOT about your health.

When the State bans all salons and barbershops when they’re educated and maintained on sanitation, but the Governor can get his stage make up done, and hair done for 5 TV appearances a week, it’s NOT about your health.

When the state puts you IN a jail cell for walking in a park with your
child because it’s too dangerous but lets criminals OUT of jail cells
for their health- It’s NOT about YOUR health!

When the state tells you it’s too dangerous to get treated by a doctor
Of chiropractic or physical therapy treatments yet deems a liquor store essential- It’s NOT about your health!

When the State lets you go to the grocery store or hardware store but is demanding mail-in voting, ITS NOT ABOUT YOUR HEALTH.

I will further add when the State says you can’t meet at Church but can meet in mass at Walmart, Target, Costco ..etc...It’s NOT about your health.

WAKE UP PEOPLE — If you think this is all about your health you’re
mistaken!

Copy and pasted. I take no credit, but 100% agree.

This should give you an idea and a taste what it it would be like living in an outright socialistic dictator ship. Times of duress can bring out some of the best as well as some of the worst in people as well as show who you can trust and rely on and who you can not. Place certain people in a position of power and before long it goes to their head and it does not take long until they come up with decisions which either reflect their ignorance or stupidity or are based on their insatiable desire to impose their will and control their fellow mans behavior.

The current coronavirus crisis or epidemic is rife with plenty of examples, a few of hem given in this article. One of my favorites is Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan rules is, that during this virus epidemic or dilemma, whatever name suits you, power boating is out but any other type of boating is permissible. It either shows plain ignorance or her true socialistic convictions have come to light and to the surface.

“Now I have the power and by God I am going to show them”

History is full of such examples and if taken to the extremes we end up with places like North Korea and anything in between. This is another reason why the founders of this Great Nation came up with the Second Amendment, as most of them were great judges of human behavior.

As Thomas Jefferson so eloquently quoted

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants”.

I dont know why you would expect a response from Barr, or any decent AG, on anything within 24 hours of the event.

Sheesh, I know. Like when the declassed info on Flynn dropped the other day. Hair on fire posts about why hasn't Barr/DOJ/Trump arrested and imprisoned the bad guys, what are they waiting for, blah blah blah. Either the woefully ignorant or manipulative concern trolls at work.

A single person being able to weaponize their authority is unacceptable - “do as I say or I’ll destroy your business”. They’re picking winners and losers among businesses.

Government has no authority to do this. Pure tyranny.

Two can play at that game. The counties should threaten to withhold all taxes and fees they pay in and all cooperation with State Police and other State agencies.

Counties don't have a way to withhold taxes and fees as they do not go through the county. But the DA could signal that he would not prosecute businesses that do not collect and pay sales tax to the state, or withhold income tax from employees or pay business income tax. PA's corporate income tax is 9.99% and it includes s-corps. That is a chunk of change.
