Why Did We Treat Coronavirus So Differently Than Other Epidemics?
Ricochet ^ | May 7, 2020 | Tom Patterson

Posted on 05/09/2020 3:20:12 PM PDT by absalom01

A three-column article in the local daily recently revealed the alarming news that Arizona State Sen. Lupe Contreras and members of his family had tested positive for the coronavirus. I wish Sen. Contreras and his family well. He seems like a good guy. But in a sane world without the hyperbolic, breathless press treatment of all matters coronavirus, the headline would read “state senator and family get the flu“ which, of course, isn’t a news story at all.

Nothing remarkable here, folks, just another among the countless attempts of the media to convince us that Wuhan flu is vastly more threatening than any other health challenges faced in the past. Yes, viral epidemics are nasty. People get sick and die. But compared with others America has faced in its history, this virus is worse than some, not as lethal as others.

Regrettably, the media blitz has succeeded. The virus may not be the most destructive of all time, but the panic-driven reaction to it could be the worst public-health blunder in our history.

You have made wrongful arrests. How about just issuing a $2. citation???? It would be more rational. But Fauci is not that!

Why? Because people electing people like Trump and voting to leave the EU can’t be permitted.

New effort to destroy Trump and control the population. Trump fell for it.
Now, the Wuhan virus is different than flu strains, but destroying the economy is insane.

I think the resulting economic impact may well be the worst in history also.
JMO but it is going to take some time to get the economy back to normal.
What ever that turns out to be.

Part two: In PA, we have lost 500 jobs for every death, and 33 jobs for every positive case. Sick!!! So many destroyed lives.

Obviously what happened in northern Italy in early March played a huge role in provoking the overreaction. Images of Italian hospitals totally overrun by patients, with folks dying untended or barely tended on the floors of hospital hallways scared people. It’s easy now to post things like “Trump was duped,” but that’s unfair as he thought he was doing the right thing to avoid having the Italian scenario play out here.

I remember being really bent out of shape when Newsome basically made it illegal for my to continue to operate my business. And this endless enforced “lockdown”, in which HEALTHY people are quarantined — an approach never before tried in all of human history has wormed its way into so many people’s brains.

Now, my company is in the midst of trying to navigate the rocky shoals involved in re-opening. What’s interesting to me is that the Boomers, men and women over 60 are champing at the bit.

The mmost paralized by fear? Young millenial women in their 20’s.

There is no rational basis for most people’s reaction to the ChiCom Bioweapon.

I did not agree with but I understand the early response. But the continuing lockdown is evil. And Trump should say so. The stat comparison between jobs destroyed, and deaths and confirmed cases are horrifying.

I don’t think that Trump was “duped” by anyone. He’s proven to be a shrewed operator, and is several steps ahead of his competition at every turn.

Just look at how he played the ‘Rat Governors. “I’m in charge, he says” “No, WE’RE in charge”, the Rats said.

“OK, it’s on you then guys. Let me know if you need any help, I’ll be here to catch you when you fall on your butts again”.

He’s like any other top executive I’ve ever known: asks the opinion of the best minds he can find, and then makes up his own mind.

And look at what he’s managed with the federal bureaucrats at the FDA and CDC: he at first trusted them to do their jobs, but very quickly when they failed, he broke down barriers, smoothed approvals, and unleashed the vast creativity and resources of America’s private industry.

Perfect in hindsight? No, but darn good work in the heat of battle.
