Praying may save us from murder hornets after all.
Wild video posted online shows a giant Asian hornet finally meeting its match: a brain-gobbling praying mantis.
The clip starts with the mantis completely still as its five eyes patiently watch the hornet an insect that can grow to 2 inches long, is known to kill up to 50 people a year in Japan, and recently arrived in the US.
The mantis suddenly springs forward with its long, modified front legs, keeping a vise-like grip on the doomed hornet, which twists and tries to turn its head in feeble attempts to put up a fight.
The long-legged carnivore then starts pecking away at the hornet eventually eating its head and brains.
Thank you for this nightmare, remarked one Twitter user of the video posted online, which had been viewed almost 160,000 times by Thursday morning.

Giant Asian Hornet
Surely that’s racist and that’s why they are now called murder hornets?
If someone who knows how could post a picture of the old sci-fi movie “The Deadly Mantis,” it would be appropriate.
Thats the one!
Absolutely amazing. Just amazing.
That shot of the half eaten head of the wasp was beyond NASTY.
I think it’s a riff on “killer bees.”
I think “tiger-head bee” (what they call ‘em in Asia) or “tiger hornet” is menacing enough.
Some things must be seen to be believed. There are some spiders that can do it, too.
“Heeyyy! Nothin’ personal! It’s just business!”
Fauci is saying that praying mantis are ineffective, and there are no empirical data supporting them as a solution to the murder hornets...
Wow! Thanks for posting the picture of preying Mantis sucking brain of hummingbird. I have seen this with my own eyes, just didn’t have a camera to take a quick pic of this amazing “lunch”.
At least the mantis said his prayers before having dinner. He obviously was NOT a Democrat mantis
I got a bunch of Praying Mantis cocoons from Burpee Seeds one year. They were all over the garden that summer.

If I found a mantis hurting a hummer, I’d add a splat of green on the wall.
Yes, the Bee was a Democrat because it read the Sacramento Bee, not the Babylon Bee.
The mantis was sing “Won’t you be my baby/neighbor/meal” while he was having dinner.
The little suckers are really territorial, especially the Rufous, and they will get right in your face to encourage you to leave their yard.
