Most of us have been in lockdown for about six weeks. The objective was to flatten the curve and reduce the total number of victims of COVID-19. Well, the curve has been flattened indeed, but how is it six-weeks later there are 25,375 new cases in a single day?
With all the laws and policies implemented to knock out this virus, I expected wed be on the last leg of the downward curve by now. But, instead of a peak and decline, weve had three peaks and shallow valleys between them.
If people are staying at home, practicing social distancing, wearing masks in public, washing their hands and sanitizing everything in sight, how is it that COVID-19 continues to be transmitted from person to person?
A couple possibilities that occurred to me are that: 1) People flouting the laws, or 2) The virus is phenomenally virulent beyond anything ever seen before ( bio-weapon).
I was fully on board with the lockdown orders when they were issued. It was what we needed to do to beat this. However, we are at the point that the cure is becoming worse than the disease. In addition to what this virus has done to people directly, what about the collateral damage, such as long-term damage to our economy? For instance, consider the first two trillion dollar bail-out. Who pays for it? If you are among the approximate one-hundred-million US tax payers, you do. The federal government just signed your name to a $20,000 loan. Dont think so? Do the math.
It would be particularly interesting to hear the stories of COVID-19 cases that youve heard of in the last couple weeks and theories of how they were exposed.
Should we just let this thing take an inevitable course, or should we double-down on lock-down?
“they are constitutional until a judge...”
Not only wrong but dead wrong. An unconstitutional law need not be followed. Hence the 2nd amendment.
I’ve cooperated for six weeks.
How much is enough?
This shit will not be the new normal for me.
Hide it you want.
I was having a disagreement with my wife about something similar last night as we listened to Hannity criticizing the Michigan protesters for carrying guns to their demonstration. I told her that what they were protesting is EXACTLY the reason why the Founders put in the 2nd amendment in the first place - to remind potential tyrants that they WORK FOR the people and not the other way around. They are there to PROTECT our rights, not PROTECT US FROM the free exercise of them.
I had that same concern. Although I now believe it is quite explainable. Take a look at the NYC bell curve.

Here’s another from Michigan.
This virus seems to have a 7 week bell curve, at least with distancing and lock-down. The problem is that you have different parts of the country that our going through this out-of-phase with each other. This gives the impression we’re not getting anywhere, as one is in decline another is ascending.
Looking at the graphs in the links you can see the declines. Considering we’ve had the lock-down for several weeks we should start to see that everyone has gone through the 7 week period and the numbers should decline.
I think we’re already seeing it. I expect the numbers to start dropping significantly over the next week.
You aren’t overly bright?
Keep being a useful idiot. Actually, keep doing whatever your masters say. Keep living in fear. I won’t be.
Thanks for your input. There are far too many people who simply panic and lose any capability of independent critical thinking. Thankfully, God when he created us gave us a mind of our own which I know you employ. If people don’t know Jesus, they will live in fear of death and also be far more susceptible to the lies that are not of God (ie useful idiots).
I pray there is a major revival.
No. The numbers will get bigger and bigger UNTIL the idiots infect themselves and others, at which time herd immunity will take over and protect us all.
Nobody is giving me or anyone I know a vaccine. The same person who is trying to develop one thinks the world’s population should be 500 million. Nobody has your best interests at heart. Turn your heart to Jesus, he actually cares.
This was always about hurting the economy and closing Trump’s rallies.
It worked. People from all demographics supported it.
Well, not the more educated and intelligent. We knew the excuses didn’t add up to closing the country, and we also knew there was no legal means to close it. It would take the support of the people to do anything they were told, and they did.
I wear a mask when going into a retail store. Not for myself-protection, as in I have never had the flu or a cold in many decades gone past. I have some ailments but my immune system is tip-top.
So...... I wear an N95 mask when going into Home Depot etc as a gesture of respect for those who work there
I do as well, but I fear we are in the great falling away. Either way Christ has got this (and us)
If you do so thats up to you and you have a nice motive for doing so. Please wear a cloth mask though. I still have to wear my N-95 for 3 shifts in the hospital then send it for recycling. They are meant for single use. Despite what you here we are short on PPE and it would be great if we could save the medical grade masks for the hospitals
And if opening up leads to disaster, the people's revenge on those in power will be ferocious.
“And if opening up leads to disaster, the people’s revenge on those in power will be ferocious.”
So, the economic disaster we currently have isn’t a disaster to you?
Which I find to be problematic. After a month, one would thing we could manufacture millions per day - that's how bad American manufacturing has become.
History has shown that theres nothing more deadly on the face of this earth than tyrannical governments. Unrolled millions have died at the hands of the likes of Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, etc. Government run amok is far more dangerous than ANY virus, including this one.
To those who would say it cant happen here, answer this question: what was the form of government in Germany prior to Hitler, and how did Hitler first achieve political power in Germany?
That's BS, at least here in the Houston area. I see masks everywhere. Many stores have been closed for over a month, traffic on the freeways is extremely light, etc. Maybe you need to get out more.
Serious question. Why do masks only work one way? How can it prevent the wearer’s germs from infecting others but provide no protection from others’ germs to the wearer?
It’s the same mask, made of the same material on both sides but has a different effect in one direction vs the other?
It is like that here in the eastern part of King County Washington where we live as well. We have a high percentage of Scandinavians here. My own grandfather immigrated from Norway in the 1920s. And this might be part of the reason people tend to keep to themselves more than in other parts of the country.
Our large community of recent Chinese immigrants, their family and friends can be thanked for bringing it here before other parts of the country had it. Thousands were taking direct flights from Wuhan to SeaTac even after the Chinese restricted travel within their own country. After President Trump's travel ban these direct flights were diverted to Vancouver International a three hour drive North. Over 10,000 people who had taken direct flights from Wuhan to Canada crossed the border into Washington in the first two weeks in February alone. So we can thank our enlightened Canadian neighbors for helping to subvert President Trump's travel ban.
So much of what has happened in the last few months demonstrates why the government's power must be limited. This is the biggest overreach in our nation's history. Using creative accounting techniques, it is possible that 100,000 people will die with some connection to the coronavirus. Many like my brother-in-law were vulnerable because they were close to death already. He had a cancerous brain tumor and was on hospice care. His body was never tested, but by CDC guidelines his death was classified as “presumptive Covid-19”. The vast majority of those who have been counted here have been people already dying from some other health issue but classified as “presumptive”.
Sorry I got side tracked, my original point is even if there are 100,000 deaths associated with this... it is still a drop in the bucket compared to the 1,300,000 people who die from heart disease and cancer in this country every year.
