New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is being accused of singling out his city’s Jewish community after a Brooklyn funeral was broken up by police for allegedly violating social distancing requirements being enforced during the coronavirus pandemic.
The funeral of Rabbi Chaim Mertz in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn appeared to draw a massive crowd, as images of the scene appeared on social media. De Blasio even went to the site of the funeral with police before posting a tweet that touched off the backlash.
“My message to the Jewish community, and all communities, is this simple: the time for warnings has passed,” de Blasio tweeted Tuesday night. "I have instructed the NYPD to proceed immediately to summons or even arrest those who gather in large groups. This is about stopping this disease and saving lives. Period."

Last I checked insulting Jews was not a very successful political strategy in New York.

Herr Buergermeister Wilhelm seems to have a bias against Jews and Christians, with this latest broadside of a piece with his earlier statement about potentially shutting down Christian and Jewish places of worship permanently.
Does he have a special squad to round up the Jews or is he making them wear special clothing or numbers?
I don’t think it’s a good idea to take on New York City’s huge Jewish community.
The problem is that NYC is full of self-hating Jews, and a lot of them don’t like the Orthodox (especially ultra-Orthodox) much either.
I don’t think this will have any effect on their love for Herr De Blasio, but I do think the community in question should file suit or appeal to the DOJ, since this is a blatant violation of their Constitutional rights and even the threat is out of place.
BTW, they had a permit and the police had helped them organize it - they’d blocked off five blocks and there was plenty of space for this outdoor event (it’s virtually impossible to catch it outdoors) and on top of that most of them were wearing masks. The police aren’t very happy about having the Mayor turn on them like that.
