While the country as a whole has successfully flattened the curve, it has yet to show the extended period of decline necessary to declare ourselves out of the woods a squashing of the curve.

Im sorry that really stinks. Its hard to get work done with a snot rag over your face
Just carrying the dems/libs/commies water for them.
In a cough, the regular flu virus is on about 50% of the particles larger than 0.3 microns (the limit of the N95 mask). So a N95 (properly worn) will protect you from those. It doesn’t make you invulnerable, but it helps reduce the viral load.
And as you said - there is debate as to how viable a virus is by itself or floating on a small speck of dust.
Not about SARS-CoV-2 but these two studies convinced me to wear some type of mask.
The first is about household transmission of influenza-like illness from a sick child to an adult with or without a mask. There are caveats but in the household, at least:
“We estimated that, irrespective of the assumed value for the incubation period (1 or 2 days), the relative reduction in the daily risk of acquiring a respiratory infection associated with adherent mask use (P2 or surgical) was in the range of 60%80%.”

The other found no significant difference in the incidence of influenza between health care workers wearing N95 or Medical(surgical) masks.

I’ve decided to use a DIY mask made from a double layer of cotton t-shirt with some sort of filtration material in between. I’ve worn mine a few times, and it’s been comfortable enough. I’m undecided on the filter. I’ve only used a double layer of paper towel so far. Blue shop towels are supposedly better, and I have a MERV 12 air filter sitting around that i may decide to tear apart.
I may end up getting COVID-19 eventually anyway, but i’m hoping some sort of mask may reduce the viral load.
LOL!
Just gotta start opening up gradually while protecting our most vulnerable to allow the virus to do a “slow burn” through the community without the risk of slamming hospitals, as happened in Seattle, New York and southern Louisiana.
Apparently for D-Day, Eisenhower found a 75% fatal casualty rate acceptable, as long as the objective of taking ans securing those beaches was completed.
Too many Americans need fainting couches. Start opening up gradually - for most parts of the country, anyway - beginning April 30. Hot spots (like my own town) could wait until May 15, I suppose.
Breathe on me
When you’re not strong
Virus be our friend
It’ll help us carry on . . .
So the doctor behind me (6 feet) at the grocery store wasnt wearing a mask. We started talking and he said the masks arent effective since theyre too porous for the virus. The only thing theyre going to do is give people a lot of bacterial infections in their lungs because theyre not clean and the heavy, warm moisture when you breath. We are not going to be able to control the virus. Were going to have to let it run its course. Lets not destroy the country in the process.
IMO the whole mask thing is about instilling confidence in essential workers like grocery store clerks so that they will continue reporting for work.
And then we need to push the squashed curve into a hole and pile 1 trillion metric tonnes of soil on it “just to be sure”....
Masks are bullshit
They are shiny objects for the sheep
A government functionary lying? That simply can't be!
Fauci, who promised us a COVID-19 vaccine this summer also promised an AIDS vaccine 22 years ago.
Just sayin'...
Anti Fauci is Anti America
75 percent wow.
I'm an agnostic. I do the best I can and worry about the rest. I'd much rather have Faith.
As you said/implied up thread everyone is going to get exposed eventually.
My goal is to make that day for mom as far in the future as possible, and to make her initial exposure as small a viral load as possible. I believe that will allow time for an effective treatment to be agreed on and universally available, and that a low initial exposure will allow her immune system a chance to fight the virus to a mild, or even no, clinical case.
Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?
May I suggest buying a high end (anti-allergen electrostatic 'premium') furnace filter and scavenging the filter media out of it? The static cling of the media will stop particles much smaller than the pore size.
