The governor explained while there have been positive signs statewide several regions across the state, including Baton Rouge and Monroe, new cases and hospitalizations continue to increase or to plateau, according to data from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH).
Thanks to the commitment of the people of Louisiana, our state has made progress in flattening the curve and reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus. Unfortunately, we still have a little work to do before we meet the criteria to safely move to the next phase of reopening, so I will extend the states Stay at Home order until May 15...

Extending the order for another two weeks is idiotic. It is insane to think that extending the order will result in a better outcome. It unfairly punishes responsible workers and business owners for the bad behavior of a few that violate the order. Punish the violators instead, but allow workers and businesses to reopen and get back to work. It can be done with proper care and precautions. People of age and poor health should remain strictly isolated for their own protection. Every one else needs to get back to life as normal.
There is no reason for him to lock down anything but maybe the two big cities at this point. THe numbers in all the other counties are great.
Incredible. Somebody has got to stop these governors. I read about the law that the MI passed halting their governor’s insanity, which of course she will veto. But what it said was that a governor could not declare this type of total shut-down emergency without the approval of the legislature, and it had to be limited to two weeks and could not be extended unless the governor got approval from the legislature again.
That’s what we need.
May 15 of what year?
This guy is an idiot.
“There is no reason for him to lock down anything but maybe the two big cities at this point. THe numbers in all the other counties are great.”
Yep. A reporter asked Edwards about this at the presser today, why not allow all the other parishes with very low infections to reopen? He gave a lame excuse that he feared an explosion of new cases, and again falsely claimed his order was working, even though he had just admitted his order had failed and needed to be extended. Unbelievable...
The most obvious error all along has been to treat this as a whole-nation, and then a whole-state problem. The fact is that over 90% of the counties in the US have not had a problem with the virus, and they should have been left untouched by the fist of government control. This should have been overseen on the county level all along.
They will call it racism if places like NYC and City of Detroit are still quarantined with a huge percentage of cases but Deplorable areas are clean and carefree (as with crime statistics!). Parts of rural Michigan have not one case in a county. Amazing.
In the end, all the Dem governors will take full credit: “See? Cases went down and I saved lives by full shutdown. I did it.”
Like the joke about the crazy guy walking through Manhatten with an elephant gun at the ready.
“It’s to scare off the elephants.”
“But there are no elephants in New York.”
“See? My system is working.”
Because.....racist
You see gang, just because he smiles and has a bit of a drawl doesn’t mean he is any better than Joe Manchin. The rat thinks the same no matter what position he is in.

Unfortunately, many states have granted emergency powers to governors that are now being abused to further their own political agendas. Too many governors are issuing orders that actually violate the US Constitution. It sure looks like many of these governors are intentionally trying to wreck the economy to hurt the re-election of Trump with no regard to the pain and suffering it causes to citizens.
State legislatures would be wise to review these emergency power grants and revise them to limit abuses, especially unconstitutional orders. Which reminds me, I need to contact my LA state representative and senator about this.
“...why not allow all the other parishes with very low infections to reopen...”
It would be racist.
“Because.....racist”
Ha! You went there, I didn’t want to, but it is the ugly truth. LA was the first state to announce that the overwhelming deaths were Blacks in poor health. But Edwards destroyed the economy for the bad health habits of a few...
Either that scenario plays out within one month with no restrictions and a recovering economy, or it is extended ad infinitum and the USA reverts to 3rd world status.
“It would be racist.”
Exactly! See comment #14
Another idiot.
“It is obvious now that the BS excuse of “flattening the curve” has run its course. People will die or recover at whatever rate the government imposes, but they will die or recover at whatever their dispositions govern.
Either that scenario plays out within one month with no restrictions and a recovering economy, or it is extended ad infinitum and the USA reverts to 3rd world status.”
Most states that did not impose draconian stay-at-home orders are actually doing fairly well, and are now being the first to ease restrictions. The self professed medical experts got it wrong. It is time now to use common sense and open up
” ...People of age and poor health should remain strictly isolated for their own protection... “
BTW, I fall into this category. Im over 60 and have been struggling with high blood pressure for several years. Im doing my best to isolate. If I catch this vicious Chinese plague, I probably would not survive. But that is no reason to wreck the economy for my nephews and nieces

I totally agree. A big mistake to take NYC and force its problem across the whole US. The town of Many LA in Sabine Parish is NOT THE SAME as New Orleans and should have never been forced into lockdown...
