The WHO says on their site via a document:
"there is currently no evidence that wearing a mask (whether medical or other types) by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including universal community masking, can prevent them from infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19."
And that masks may cause:
• self-contamination that can occur by touching and reusing contaminated mask
• depending on type of mask used, potential breathing difficulties
• false sense of security, leading to potentially less adherence to other preventive measures such as physical distancing and hand hygiene
• diversion of mask supplies and consequent shortage of mask for health care workers
• diversion of resources from effective public health measures, such as hand hygiene
If they’re not coughing or sneezing unnecessary

I thought they were trying to walk that lie back.
S. Korea attributes their much better numbers, compared to Western nations, to their culture of wearing masks in public. Their health officials think our health officials are insane.
USA deaths/million = 146
S. Korea deaths/million = 5
Taiwan deaths/million = 0.3
(As soon as the outbreak in Wuhan was reported, the Taiwanese government purchased several mask-making machines.)

Scenario #1) I think vaccines are the work of the devil. I didn't have my kids vaccinated at all.

Scenario #2) I'm a careful citizen and during this pandemic, I wear a mask when I go out in public.

Let’s see, a person improperly wears a useless dust mask, or other useless thing, then takes off that mask which contaminates them and the area, places the mask in the center console of their car, then puts it back on later.
Yet, so many people think these magic masks protects them and everyone should wear one.

I lived in Asia for a while. I would hate to see this practice come to the US, and I don’t like wearing masks as daily apparel unless the air quality is especially bad. BUT, it’s obvious that even a poor quality mask helps if, at the very least, it keeps your hands away from your mouth and nose a little more. The WHO is total BS. Shut them down.

BTW, the Japanese have not ordered any business to close, they are only issuing recommendations. Almost all of their new cases are among the young who do not heed the recommendations for social distancing.
Japan had a very negative experience with fascism before and during World War II. Public transportation in Tokyo is still running at about 40% capacity. The governor (yes, Tokyo is a province, not a city) was on television recently to assure them that pubic transit and businesses would continue to operate because they don't want to infect the countryside.
I won't print the actual number of cases and deaths because it changes regularly and is easy enough to look up. Let's just say that what they have nationwide is considerably less than certain neighborhoods in NYC.
