In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!

I'd love a job picking cherries or blackberries or huckleberries but figure I'd be eventually sick from eating more than I put in the baskets!
“Oh, and yes we will have to allow some legal TEMPORARY immigration to see the crops tended to.”
Until the leftwads screwed it up, migrant farm workers entered the country legally and followed the harvest northward. When it was over, they went the F home.
It was a good system for everyone.
Bravo
Even Senatrix Feinstein proposed closing universities to all foreign students after 9/11. But she was ripped for it and backed off.
I don’t know about following crops north, but around here the population swells in the fall, then they go home home.
The smarter ones that stay away from the casinos go home pretty well off, many buy a car here and drive it home.
Do you think Kim’s Nork successors would risk getting nuked by sending operatives here (stealthily traveling through third countries) to infect us with an even worse virus?
I offered “Work-Fare” as a possible solution.
Funny, but I never see fat crop pickers, mostly young and fit, a few middle aged.
They have a system that I can only compare to apartheid, we have ONE Raley’s supermarket in town but six individually smaller Mexican markets.
The pickers seem to run a parallel society, their markets and restaurants probably lose money most of the year but really cash in during the harvest.
And if you want to see real price gouging, visit a Mex. market and look at the prices!
Elderberries too. A good source of zinc, to bolster the immune system.
Make sure this includes ALL PRC Chinese ‘exchange’ students
All Indians, All Chinese, and All Mexican. Send them all home.
Bump.
Yep. We will pay one way or another. I would rather pay Americans more....
Exactly. And the tricky part is that if others in your market are using illegals, you can’t afford not to follow suit.
Then once you’ve got illegals or even legal seasonal immigrant workers, you can make the jobs, and any worker accommodations, however nasty and disgusting as you want. Then it is hard for others not to take the same nasty shortcuts and still compete.
Through those two dynamics ag jobs have become less and less appealing for decades now. Get the employers to clean up the conditions, pay a fair wage, and be creative in finding the college students and other potential seasonal and year-round workers and all will be good.
There will also be justification to invest in more technology and modernization again.
Especially after the coronavirus experience in NYC, there should be plenty of Americans up for relocation to beautiful rural communities as well.
Good point. I'm all for automating, especially regarding agriculture.
My guess is that even at $25/hour, you would be hard pressed to find a majority of Americans to milk cows. Just a different mind-set now. As such, am a big supporter of robotic miikers. Once you can get first fresheners trained to use the milker, they work very well. Expensive for sure, but over time pays for itself with increased milk output and much lower labor costs.
Problem is that we’re still allowing Chinese nationals to fly in on foreign carriers.
So why in Hades are we locking up Americans?!
#109 Bwaaaahahahaha!!!
