Donald Trump: Coronavirus Exposed Dangers of Supply Chains Dependent on China
Breitbart ^ | 19 Apr 2020 | Charlie Spiering

President Donald Trump said Saturday the biggest lesson of the coronavirus crisis was that the United States should not rely on China for their supply chains.

“We’ve learned a lot about supply chains,” Trump said. “We’ve learned that it’s nice to make things in the U.S., I’ve been saying that for a long time.”

The president discussed the issue during the White House press briefing, recalling he ran for president on the dangers of America’s dependence on bad trade deals and foreign countries while gutting our country’s industries.

“If one thing comes out of this more than anything else is that we should make product in the United States,” he said.

Trump noted that he also promised as a candidate to be tough on China and successfully pressured them with tariffs to make an important trade deal.

“With China, we made the deal, and it became friendly, but then this happened,” he recalled.

Trump recalled reading a story about America’s car companies facing a struggle to return to normal, as it would be difficult to get all the parts they needed from around the world.

“What happens when you’re in a war, and you have a supply chain where half of your supplies are given to in other countries?” Trump asked. “Who are the people that thought of it? These are globalists. It doesn’t work.”

"“We’ve learned a lot about supply chains,” Trump said. “We’ve learned that it’s nice to make things in the U.S., I’ve been saying that for a long time.”

He has, Trump had been trying to jawbone congress into doing the right thing for many years prior to running.

And neither side would even talk about it.

Trump's stand on Trade Policy is why I took a hard look at his other policies after he announced and I put together the list of "21 Reasons why Trump is a conservative".

One of my better moments.

He’s right of course, but the businessmen that moved their supply lines to China did it because it helped the bottom line, and was allowed by law. Therefore it is probable that unless laws change, or the cost of buying from China goes up significantly, those same businessmen won’t change. Not on their own they won’t, because their competitors might then have an advantage.

Where does that leave us? The laws (or tariffs) need to change. Do away with the IRS and use tariffs instead, as the founders intended.

We did it to ourselves. We enacted laws, agencies, rules, regulations which made our industries non-competitive. We can either clear the deck of such laws or accept a lower standard of living.

Amen, Mr. President! And neither do the globalists' work visa programs. Make American, buy American, hire American!

And the Enemedia plus a good many DC Swamp critters get funding from China. It explains why those entities are so quick to defend China against any information that links them to the virus!

Buy American. It’s a effing no brainer.

The globalist and the profits regardless of consequences, free traders, were leading us down the path of decline, defeat and destruction.

We did it to ourselves.

Exactly. At one point Congress was even passing laws that gave tax breaks to companies that off-shored their businesses. That wasn’t just insane, it was actually more corrupt than anything. The claim was it made it better for the consumer to amass junk, and for businesses to compete worldwide. Possibly true, but not at the cost of the nation’s ability to self survive.

Medicine is a big part of it. Even though India produces a lot of it some of the ingredients come from China

I would like to know if Roche/Genentech makes Actemra in China.

Doctors who want to use the drug can’t get it. People are dying from lack of drugs that might work

few days ago...One Doctor on the Texags site needs it and they have one dose left with two patients who need it.

One suggestion was that if you come down with this disease go to an academic hospital

Americans, STOP BUYING CHINESE CRAP!!!

(You are 100% right)

They need government help. American factories, need government to HELP them, to get involved in aggressively enacting tariffs, and favoring American jobs.

For 30 years, our politicians, have been selling out, our own country.

BOTH PARTIES.

Yes. G.H.W.Bush’s words still echo in my mind and it really woke me. And Clinton signed NAFTA and called a law school professor of mine who helped draft it I think for advice about signing it.

I really have always hated this sell out of Americans.
