"The updates will come to Android 6.0 Marshmallow phones and above"...

Yeah my phone pinged me today to tell me that some guy in Allentown, PA had just died of coronavirus.
Really useful. /s
or leaving cell phones, which we did fine without forever, at home.
There are times when the phone is needed on you.
They are FEW.
I WILL turn off the location in my phone, permanently. And if that doesn’t work, I will start leaving it at home.
“start leaving it at home.”
That is the best solution. Turning location off will not tracking your location. Leaving it at home will.
Turing off location services is a *request* to disregard your location data. Your carrier may honor it, or they may not.

LOL! But if you need it, you really need it. Silly to minimize a device that saves you time and could save your life.
Besides if you don’t want this monitoring, don’t download it. Also, turning off Bluetooth disables it.
Can you shut it off? I am going root my phone if not.

If you don’t want it, don’t download it.
I turned off the location and tracking on my phone and leave the phone at home.
I can remember when I didn’t need a phone to go to the store or any travels.
“Can you shut it off? I am going root my phone if not.”
LOL! It’s on Play Store!
You are going to root your phone for something not on your phone?
It’s an API. Not actually doing any tracking. Not until somebody makes an app with it. Which you won’t have to get. Really people, calm down.
“I can remember when I didnt need a phone to go to the store or any travels.”
I can, also. I am glad we are not still in that time.
It’s just an API so someone CAN make an app. No you can’t turn off an API. But you can not get whatever app gets made. Also it uses bluetooth, if you don’t bluetooth (I don’t, it’s annoying) then it all means nothing.
An empty foil potato chip bag is your friend.
“Its an API. Not actually doing any tracking. Not until somebody makes an app with it. Which you wont have to get. Really people, calm down.”
You would think that the mention of Play Store would be a hint.
Also the embedded link says ‘for those that want to download.
You are either very naive or delusional, thinking that it won’t be downloaded into your phone without your knowledge in the not too distant future.
Just like location on your phone, it is still sending that information, it’s now cell phones WORK, for crying out loud. At least three towers are talking to your phone as long as it has battery power. Even when it’s off, the towers can locate you.
Only a dead or removed battery prevents that information being transmitted.
But of course nobody lets facts get in the way of their outraged posturing.
Wrap it in aluminum foil. (Off or in airplane mode to save the battery.)
Doesn’t matter if it winds up on your phone. It is not actual tracking. It’s an API for an app. An app which so far doesn’t exist. And which you won’t have to get.
