WASHINGTONActing Navy Secretary Thomas Modly resigned on Tuesday following an uproar after he excoriated the former captain of the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, whose crew had become stricken with the coronavirus, according to U.S. military officials.

He put the email in a position to be leaked. Same thing as doing it himself.
Be interesting to see how the final investigation comes out.
You can bench a player and replace him. Then behind closed doors chew his ass. Thats all. What is speculated outside the room is rumor. To openly air dirty laundry is BS. The CO needed canned, now his boss needs canned. All IMHO.
Agreed. Thats an important point that almost everybody misses. There are lots of admirals in the chain of command who could/should have relieved the captain. The question is why didnt they? Did they refuse or did Modly jump the chain?
Which in any case should not have.
Quite so. As a rule, adverse personnel actions should almost always be handled with restraint and consideration for those involved.
Why would you want that worthless inept person in charge of anything?
It was number 2. It was sent unclassified and open. The Captain clearly wanted it to be public. Expect him to run as a Democrat in the next few years.
“I dont think the captain leaked the information rather his email was leaked by someone else.”
Baloney. He cc’ed it to 22 people outside his chain and even some civilians. And sent it in the open. And beyond whether or not it leaked, it was extremely childish. All he discussed was how to get 90% of the crew ashore and tie the ship to the pier.
He didn’t say a word about what he needed to become combat ready ASAP. No request for emergency replacement personnel to be flown in. No request for extra medical personnel. No warning that another carrier may need to quickly replace them. No notification that they were engaged in aggressive decontamination procedures.
All he did was whine about wanting to abandon ship and that “this isn’t wartime”.
He’s a weakling... might make a good nanny though.
Finally some sanity here on FR. Its getting more and more like I am on Democratic underground.
Where does Trump find these people?
Agreed. Good riddance.
How many days since the last collision?
They need to have a sign up like most factories used to have regarding on-site injuries.
Who ever it was needed or now needs to be removed.
Also those who had the crew crowded together to cheer the departing captain need to be removed.
An American war ship must not be started to be turned into a Battleship Potemkin.
Both wrong.
The Captain for leaking operational readiness details outside the chain of command.
The Secretary for not simply dismissing him but feeling compelled to fly 8000 miles to his ship to deliver that diatribe.

BINGO! You dont counteract STUPID with STUPID.
America, including the military, is finally dipping into the generation of people who were raised with participation trophies, were encouraged to speak their precious little minds whenever they wanted to, and were told their s**t didn’t stink. The last generation of actual men retired years ago.
Both men erred, letting emotions prevail over good order and discipline; one not using the chain of command, and the other abusing it. Let cooler heads prevail.
Modly said Crozier had cc’ed more than 20 people, including some outside the chain of command, over unsecured and unclassified systems, assuring the memo’s leak.
He also said Crozier did not speak to his direct superior, carrier strike group commander Rear Adm. Stuart Baker, about his concerns before sending the memo, despite Baker being on the carrier and living within feet of Crozier.
Modly said Crozier was not fired for expressing concerns, but the way he chose to do so.
