Okay. Egg all over my face. I told Mrs. Eagle that Boris would get better care than the average subject. Turns out I was wrong. Even their political leaders get crappy health care.

What could Trump do that the UK couldn’t? NHS or not, Boris is a VIP, getting the best treatment.

They are between a rock and a hard place. If they accept help from the USA it offers the PM the best chance to fully recover. On the other hand if it would also be a tacit indictment of the NHS which they have subjected their entire populace to.

I wonder if Johnson rejected the USA or if it was his successor? Probably the latter. That's a factor two, not that he wants Johnson to die but let's face it, the stakes are quite a bit less for him if Johnson dies. For Johnson it's the ultimate stakes, for Raab, well he not only lives but he's de facto PM at least in the short term. So political considerations could come into play under that situation.

“We’re confident the prime minister is receiving the best possible care from the National Health Service,”

Isn’t Boris too fat to meet the NHS standards for treatment eligibility?

Is it me or does anyone else think that a better wording might be ‘declined’ rather than ‘rejected’ in this write-up? Declined would be appropriate for a “Thanks for the offer but we have got it in hand” as a response to an unsolicited offer. Rejected is a harsher sounding response like “Go away kid, you bother me!”

Then again the writer is probably a grad of a journalism school and has made English a second language!

At least they haven’t put him on a respirator. That’s a death sentence. He’s getting oxygen, which is exactly what’s called for.

Politics over life.

Sounds like the Democrat model is alive and well, even in old England.

Brits have always been stuffy little bastards. But that said, what we would say if another country offered to help in Trump’s treatment?

Socialized medicine probably works well for those at the top if you’re an elite swamp creature, like socialism worked for the Soviet nomenclatura. If you’re a swamp drainer / reformer, however, there’s probably no more dangerous place for you to be.

'Reject' is putting it stupidly harshly.

It's more a "thanks, but we have it covered anyway".

The NHS is capable of delivering world-class treatment. It saved my life 5 years ago and my wife and son's life during childbirth 13 years ago.

We had boots on the ground yesterday....they probably consulted and decided that what they are doing now, and how he is responding, negated the need for additional measures...never know it from the article though...
