WASHINGTON (AP) After the first alarms sounded in early January that an outbreak of a novel coronavirus in China might ignite a global pandemic, the Trump administration squandered nearly two months that could have been used to bolster the federal stockpile of critically needed medical supplies and equipment.
A review of federal purchasing contracts by The Associated Press shows federal agencies largely waited until mid-March to begin placing bulk orders of N95 respirator masks, mechanical ventilators and other equipment needed by front-line health care workers.

Once again, an article being critical just for the sake of being critical.
Those supplies must be ordered through a contract. This is not a simple matter of picking up the phone and ordering; contract solicitations must be posted in a federal register, interested companies must submit bids, the contracting officer has to compare and counter-negotiate... etc. etc. I’ve been a party on contract actions that took YEARS to bring to a successful conclusion.
The author of this piece wants to blame Trump for a lengthy, cumbersome contract process? Has he ever heard of the Federal Acquisitions Regulations, or FAR, much less read it? I seriously doubt it. I would also doubt he has any clue as to who wrote up the FAR (hint: not any president).
What an idiot.
Trump’s fault, Trump’s fault. Where were the commie Dims during this time? Why were the “brains” of their regimes not figuring this out? Oh, wait, they don’t have any brains. They only have the Obammy’s, Hildabeasts and Ole crazy Joe’s of the world, pushing the agenda with the Communist Media of Socialist Amerika.
You called? :)
So, what do you expect? For Dr. Fauci to recommend full pandemic mode when the disease is still only seen in China? When it looked like the disease was going to be controlled with the “normal” dangerous disease control protocols?
He waited until it looked like Covid-19 was spreading despite the precautions already being taken.
With all the complaining now about social distancing, etc., what do you think the reaction would have been if Dr. Fauci had recommended full pandemic isolation measures while there were only a handful of cases in the US?
Please don’t be tempted by the desire to criticize for the sake of being critical. Instead, look at the situation and ask yourself what you would have done in that same situation.
A doctor who sees patients is actually not the best expert on this. You want someone who studies infectious diseases, who is a researcher, who is intimately familiar with the literature and who keeps up to date on new publications in his field. A research doctor (like Dr. Fauci) is a completely different professional than a doctor whose career is patient care.
Dr. Fauci is very competent and knowledgeable. His demeanor is that of a scientist, which puts off a lot of people, especially non-scientists. I have no problem with it, being a scientist myself.
So you’d let your mother or brother or son die rather than let them have the malaria cocktail.
We were focused on impeachment
Therein lies much of the problem, I think. Perhaps Pres. Trump should have gotten rid of as many Democrats as possible upon his inauguration. Only problem is that Obama had downloaded so many of “his people” during his 2 terms that getting rid of as many of them as possible could have meant only a few dozen left to run the whole country. No president would have been able to “restock” an administration fast enough with the right people to effectively run the country.
Thanks to the CDC and WHO!
If I were Donald Trump in 2016-2017 Id have made damn sure all the deep state Hillary lovers in any position I could control were given their walking papers.
Not the Feds job.
Common Defense.
Post Office.
Patent Office.
That’s it.
A true Black Swan event. I think I’ve had three in my lifetime. This is the third I’ve experienced. Reading the book now—it’s good.
Humans have a hard time preparing for the unexpected or even thinking about preparing for the unexpected.
They arent concerned that Obama didnt replenish the stockpile in the 6 years between 2010 and 2016, but they are terribly disappointed that Trump didnt do it between January and March.
The CDC HAD ONE JOB!!!!
But they were too busy worrying about Climate Change.
US was more prepared for pandemic than any other country, Johns Hopkins study found

Furthermore, impeachment was a distraction from the growing Chinese virus.
Still waiting on an AP story about how dem leaders called Trump racist for stopping flights from China. Or Pelosi telling people to visit Chinatown. Or NYC mayor telling people to go out and the virus isnt a big deal.
Yeah, yeah. We’ve heard this song before. Second verse same as the first.
I was responding to your criticism of Dr. Fauci not seeing patients, because it looks like you think only a physician who has a thriving patient practice would be qualified to speak on health matters. I was pointing out that that is not the case.
I do not know how you leap from that to an assumption of what I think about the chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine as a treatment. I have said previously that some preliminary laboratory results indicate that it is worthwhile to do a controlled clinical study to determine if it is efficacious in patients. That is, to see if it works in people as well as it works in test tubes.
Like Dr. Fauci, I am also a scientist, a doctor of the PhD type. I would not want to give a drug based on anecdotal accounts, but I would certainly consider it if there is data backing up its use.
