Coronavirus Published 1 hour ago Amid coronavirus, George W. Bush's 2005 pandemic warning resurfaces, may underscore slip-ups by successors
Fox News ^ | April 5 2020

Newly resurfaced footage of then-President George W. Bush urgently warning of the risks posed by pandemics in 2005 -- "If we wait for a pandemic to appear, it will be too late to prepare," Bush said at the National Institutes of Health -- has drawn belated praise from his detractors, and raised new questions as to the state of the federal government's disaster preparedness since his administration.

In particular, a USA Today fact-check recently confirmed that the Obama administration had allowed the N95 mask stockpile to deplete following a series of crises, and apparently ignored calls for experts to renew the stockpile. President Trump repeatedly has blamed his predecessor for the shortage as well, although he also apparently took no efforts to replenish the materials.

Former top Bush adviser Karl Rove told Fox News on Sunday that, while Bush implemented a pandemic plan, it wasn't properly maintained.

"The thing that gets me is, the national stockpile was built, and this was one of the issues... we had to make certain we had enough material in that stockpile, and there are a couple of issues here," Rove, a Fox News contributor, said. "One is this equipment -- there's a different durability to each item in the stockpile. If you've got yourself a ventilator, it's got a long life -- now it may be made obsolete by changes in technology, but it's got a relatively long shelf life."

Well, I can tell you right now there's a chance an asteroid has our name on it.

We need to start prepping counter-measures right now.

There's always something to prep for.

"George W. Bush's 2005 pandemic warning resurfaces"

Was it because the Obamunist Administration was too busy investigating Global Warming, Guns, and "White Privilege" as being threats to Public Health?

I support President Trump. I trust his judgments. As a nation we have really no other choice. But one thing irritated me to no end. He blamed the lack of preparedness and the lack of equipment on the previous administration. The previous administration was at fault. The previous administration was to blame.

Yes I know that the Trump administration has been fighting for its life dealing with false and phony reports and impeachment charges. But after three years: blaming Trump is shallow.

So since he is sooo eager to own the success of the economy, I guess Obama and Biden now officially owns this as well.

Hey Joe, where you going with those masks in you hands?
Hey Joe! Where you going with those masks in your hand?

Which administration was it that allowed the Chi-Coms to gain a toe-hold on the control of the medications we today rely on? It sure as hell wasn’t during Donald Trump’s first term.

Flashback: In August 2010, President Midas Touch Scrapped Tougher Bush-Era Quarantine Rules Designed to Halt Spread of Epidemics
Via Kerry Picket at Breitbart.http://ace.mu.nu/archives/352214.php
...Flash forward to April 2010, after Obama became president, and reviewed the 2005 rules. He “quietly” dumped them.[http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/washington/2010-04-01-quarantine_N.htm]
The Obama administration has quietly scrapped plans to enact sweeping new federal quarantine regulations that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention touted four years ago as critical to protecting Americans from dangerous diseases spread by travelers.
The regulations, proposed in 2005 during the Bush administration amid fears of avian flu, would have given the federal government additional powers to detain sick airline passengers and those exposed to certain diseases. They also would have expanded requirements for airlines to report ill passengers to the CDC and mandated that airlines collect and maintain contact information for fliers in case they later needed to be traced as part of an investigation into an outbreak.
Airline and civil liberties groups, which had opposed the rules, praised their withdrawal....

Was it because the Tea Party came in and tried to shut down domestic spending in the middle of a deep recession?

Every President should make every effort to leave the country in better shape than it was when he took over. This did not involve major effort, all that was required was for Obama to direct federal agencies to write purchase orders.

Criticism of the Obama administration is fully warranted.

You seem to think that Dems would have appropriated the money to renew stockpiles, I think you are WRONG!

They would have accused the President of putting money in his business associates pockets and tried to IMPEACH HIM FOR THAT.

When was the last time you heard ANYTHING about public health from Dems other than FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR THE WHOLE WORLD!

(on your tax dollars of course)

"tried to shut down domestic spending"

Tried or succeeded?

Maybe if Jorge Arbusto and the rest of his RINO / swamp creature administration had lead the pandemic argument from the standpoint of national security, he would have been a lot more successful.

I agree.

It's beneath PDJT.

Did someone he appointed drop the ball?

Did they try but were refused for 2 years by a Republican Congress?

First and foremost this is a hospital and state failing.

What hospital runs out of PPE after 1 month?

I'd like to see the numbers because all elective, non critical stuff has been cancelled so how much more than normal are they using?

6 months ago you could have filled your garage with PPE for $500.

No doctors, nurses, administration, emergency planners saw a pandemic coming?
