Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsends daughter and grandson are missing after authorities say they were seen struggling to return to shore in a canoe near Herring Bay, a family member confirmed Friday.
David McKean says his wife, Maeve Fahey Kennedy Townsend, 41, and son, Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean, 8, are the people last sighted 10 miles south of Annapolis near Herring Bay.
McKean declined to comment further.
Anne Arundel County fire officials say a concerned citizen called 911 around 4:30 p.m. Thursday to report that he saw the woman and her son in a small canoe or kayak from the Columbia Beach community pier.

I wonder what the Kennedy gene is that makes them do really stupid, risky stuff. Wind was about 20 mph at times yesterday afternoon in Maryland and temp was only 60. To go out in that in a very small vessel to fetch a ball of all things? And to take an 8-year old with you?!

As the father of a five year old ...
* * * * *
... Sure. I think you are acting like a 5 year old. And your “mouth” should be cleaned out with soap.
The ELITES have plenty of book sense but not one damn kick of common sense if you ever have to think outside of a box they are NOT capable of that EVER!!!
The daughter of JFK's daughter (Carolyn is JFK's daughter) would be his granddaughter. The boy is JFK's great-grandson.
Oh man, I completely misread the headline. Of course you’re right since it plainly said Kathleen not Caroline.
No, he's RFK's great grandson. Kathleen is RFK's daughter. The boy's mother is Kathleen's daughter.

So very true.
...and took the little boy with her?
Yes. Stupid. They were kicking a ball. Husband said the popped into the canoe to retrieve it. To me that means no life jackets.
In my salad days I was in a canoe once....paid 50 cents to rent it in a forest preserve....paddled down the river which was low at that time of the year - it was no more than a stream......made the wrong move at one point, and over I went into the water.
Got soaking wet, and I got back into the canoe and turned and paddled back to the concession booth to return it.
I never got into a canoe again. I was an excellent swimmer, but these aquatic vessels are unpredictable, and I never wanted an unexpected soaking again. I can think of a million more fun things to do on water than paddle, paddle, paddle a canoe....afraid to make the wrong move accidentally and end up in the water....or worse.

rip tide
It was the Chesapeake Bay. There is not going to be a rip tide. Their canoe capsized and they were thrown into sub-60 degree water. Hypothermia comes very quickly under that circumstance.
It was yesterday. They have not been found. Sadly, they are dead.
In that water temp unconscious in 2 hours.
Yep, and dead in 1-6 hours according to this (scroll down):
You’re absolutely right. I lost my head, read Kathleen, but thought Caroline. In my defense, I did read the whole excerpt before making my boneheaded comment.
There are a lot of marsh lands there.I would pay for my own search.
One more. 2nd deceased in past year. 30 remain.
Of course, but you would be paying to search for the bodies.
