Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsends daughter and grandson are missing after authorities say they were seen struggling to return to shore in a canoe near Herring Bay, a family member confirmed Friday.
David McKean says his wife, Maeve Fahey Kennedy Townsend, 41, and son, Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean, 8, are the people last sighted 10 miles south of Annapolis near Herring Bay.
McKean declined to comment further.
Anne Arundel County fire officials say a concerned citizen called 911 around 4:30 p.m. Thursday to report that he saw the woman and her son in a small canoe or kayak from the Columbia Beach community pier.

The Kennedy Curse.
Passed down from generation to generation to generation to....
Can’t ski, can’t fly, can’t canoe.

You like making jokes about 5 year olds dying? As the father of a five year old, if we were in person Id bitch slap you.
Well, lets wait for the facts. What were they doing out there in blustery conditions? Were they oblivious to danger? Got caught in a sudden storm?
Kennedy misadventures—flying, skiing,
driving etc.
In the book The Kennedy Heirs it
mentions how a family friend took
teenage Caroline for a flying
lesson without Jackie’s permission.
She got angry when she found out.
After all the family’s tragedies,
she didn’t want to tempt fate.
JFK Jr, then 13 and a couple of
years too young for lessons, wanted
to be able to fly that day, too.
Warned about flying while inexperienced, JFK Jr killed
himself,his wife Carolyn and his
sister in law when his plane
plunged on the way to Martha’s Vineyard.
Small craft advisories have been up for the Chesapeake Bay for days now, due to the big low off the east coast. Winds have been gusting to near gale force.
As long as you don’t fall in.

Sorry, but there’s no excuse for stupidity. A very windy day. In a canoe. On the Chesapeake. Maryland on lockdown.
prayers.....
Sometimes the wind "comes up" fairly rapidly. That said, I'm not a big fan of canoes in anything other than glass-smooth water.
Do they know if they had life jackets on?
