We got some baby chicks in a spare room for the time being to have fresh eggs this summer. Our 20lb. squirrel dog has a serious prey drive and thinks we’ve put in a chicken buffet.

So demand is high, but they have no way to meet it? Because they ship all the milk to schools in tiny cartons, and stores don’t sell tiny cartons?

They should have figured that one out, because I bet people would be happy to buy milk in individual cartons.

Although I was in the store last night and there was plenty of milk. Still no toilet paper. And they were low on bagels.

But they had Worcestershire sauce, so that was a plus.

A couple of our steakhouses, who have existing supply chains, are selling “steak kits” which have all the ingredients for a family-of-4 steak and potatoes dinner.

Not MY Publix. It has nada, nothing (that one needs), plenty of olives stuffed with pickled pigs eyes, and other tasty necessities of life.

The first day of its 7 AM "senior hour" there was no carding and they let in anyone in line including young women with children. Even a number of the employees were burned up, expressing themselves vocally.

When folks got in, there was none of the necessities, anyhow.

I don't know how things are right now. Will be testing it's "senior hour" again shortly.

Reads like a PR piece. Dairy industry getting in line for a bailout.

Milk is still over $4 a gallon at Publix...

The difference in the price of milk was one of the first things I noticed when we moved to New Mexico from South Florida.

In Florida a gallon of milk was usually $3 to $4. Once in a great while it would be $2.99 or $2.79 a gallon.

Here in New Mexico a gallon of milk is usually $1.99 to $2.79 with it occasionally going down to $1.79 a gallon.

It seems that New Mexico produces about 4 times as much milk as Florida.

ha ha ha. My dog thought they were squeak toys. When they're a few months old, they'll peck the dog and the dog will have respect for the chickens afterwards.

Consider late summer for fresh eggs. Enjoy the chickens. Its so nice looking outside, winter or summer and seeing them peck and scratch at something. Very relaxing.

"For YEARS I was ridiculed by family members for raising chickens and bees. My in-laws would laugh at me and call me a redneck and a few other choice words. My own family did the same but without the harsh words"

I'm glad you had the last laugh! sweet isn't it?

I'm impressed with the beekeeping. Good for you! The best honey ever!

Thank you.

I teased my wife several years ago about getting chickens. Once you have a fresh egg compared to a store-bought egg. There is no comparison. I got two of them earlier and the eggs were still warm.

I got two gallons of honey from my hives last year and it is THE BEST.

Best lesson on birds and bees I have been taught.

My girls keep snakes away from my property and the bee fertilizes the plants I use to eat from.

STUPID turn into dry milk cheese to give to food banks, needy. instead of shipping into dictatorships.

Right?! Why couldn’t the now ‘excess’ milk be shipped overseas to countries suffering from malnutrition and such, as a for instance?
I understand you don’t want to store it b/c of costs and then the impact on future demand, but seems still a darn shame to dump it down the drain....

Really? If it’s not possible to storage it here how’s it gonna be possible to transported overseas in these conditions at this time?

The problem in the 1st place is drivers and transport

That’s actually a great idea and if I knew which ones around me were doing that - we’d be buying.
