Navy Fires Captain Of Carrier Stricken By Coronavirus Outbreak

The US Navy fired the commanding officer of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier stuck in port and dealing with a severe coronavirus outbreak, Navy leaders said Thursday afternoon.

"Today, at my direction, the commanding officer of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, Capt. Brett Crozier, was relieved of command," Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly told reporters at the Pentagon Thursday. "I did not come to this decision lightly."

Modly said he lost confidence in the commanding officer.

The Navy's decision to relieve Crozier came after he wrote a letter to Navy leadership begging the military branch to take decisive action to counter the spread of the virus on the carrier by getting sailors off the ship as soon as possible.

The letter was leaked to the San Francisco Chronicle, the captain's hometown newspaper, which published it on Tuesday.

His chances of making admiral just went to zero. Career over.
************************************************
I’m guessing his career was going downhill already. He knew it and his virtue signaling was simply prep work meant to pave the way to a post-retirement new line of work.

If he was removed, it follows there was reason for it.
No?
And as I said and you repeat, his suggestions were being considered.
And it does look like he leaked it.
Go back and check out the early reports on it, his behavior.
He was happy with the press attention.
Using his uniform for political brownie points.
Like Vindman.
I wonder at his communications and associations.
Whois he connected to.

Was chain of command up the ladder his only option? Seems like he would be a hero if he had taken action on-ship to save lives.

“The Navy is already implementing his recommendations from the memo.”

That’s been said, yes.
He was removed for reason.
Most likely because he leaked it.
His behavior says “look at meeeeeeeee”.
Well, he got looked at and removed.

The perfumed princes who reside on lofty positions of self importance don’t like having their faces shoved in the excrement of their own making. I’m surprised they are not trying to pull a Billy Mitchell on the good captain.

The larger story is that ALL of our “Opponents”, for lack of a more accurate, politically incorrect term, know that one of our largest military arrows is laid up in port...

Just when it is most important to be sailing around that part of the ocean, our presence is elsewhere.

By recently making a port call in Viet Nam, and conducting ops in the Philippine Sea area, the Roosevelt deterred China from getting overly frisky in the South China Sea and maybe even held Lil Kim down a bit.

ALL of my skippers were highly respected, without a doubt.

Captain Crozier seems to all of that and universally BELOVED as well.

IMHO ~~5,000 sailors can’t ALL be wrong.
A ‘tad bit’ inebriated, maybe, but dead wrong...NO!

Could be. I don’t know and am not defending him on that. I’m waiting on evidence one way or the other. I’m truly open minded on it.

I’m cynical and distrusting of officers who came through Obama command structures.

1. OPSEC

2. The Commander is responsible for everything the unit does, or fails to do.

That’s why they get paid the big bucks. Sorry, you lose CPT.

'Modly said Thursday, without directly accusing the captain of leaking the letter, that Crozier allowed the letter to be distributed outside the chain of command by sending it out widely in a way that may have made it susceptible to a leak. Specifically, the acting secretary said that he had 20-30 other people copied when the letter went out using non-secure email.'

'Saying that such actions were "not acceptable," he told reporters the captain "demonstrated extremely poor judgement in the middle of a crisis."'

'Rep. Adam Smith, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is questioning the timing of the skipper's removal.'

'While he acknowledged that Crozier "clearly went outside the chain of command," Smith wrote in a joint statement with three of the committee's Democrats who chair subcommittees '

Yeah, it sure looks like this POS "Captain" is one of Obama's pets and he released this publicly deliberately.

Oh man... was this virus used to cull the herd?
I've been trying to figure out why this virus is so urgent.

“If he leaked it himself, it just screams “lack of faith in the chain of command”.

Of course he did. He copied 20 other people. There was no reason to do that......none.

He has 2.5% of his command of young, fit people test positive.Statistically very few will get ill if at all.

He, by the nature of his position, has almost complete control of their actions.

Perhaps it is not merely a simple virus...

There may be a lot of “rest of the story” going on...
