WASHINGTON - The U.S. Navy is expected to relieve the commander of the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, who wrote a scathing letter that leaked to the public asking the Navy for stronger measures to control a coronavirus outbreak onboard, U.S. officials told Reuters on Thursday.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Captain Brett Crozier was being relieved not because he wrote the letter and sent it up through the chain of command but because the Navy believes he leaked it to the media.

One of the officials said a formal announcement could be made as early as Thursday.

I’m sure Reuters was given the skinny; they are very trustworthy.

Why would this guy put anything down on email or whatever instead of making a phone/radio call and raising hell?

He should be court marshaled and then sent to the brig. Leaking out this kind of info to our enemies is a serious breach of security.

Follow the chain of command, you’re less likely to get your head bitten off when it’s bad news. Maybe that’s what happened.

And I was reading that in March he let the crew go ashore in Vietnam on Liberty call. It’s likely he caused the whole problem.

But one thing striking absent from his letter was readiness. He prattled on and on about getting the crew off his ship and staffing with a 10% skeleton crew. But he did not ask for healthy replacement sailors be immediately sent out to keep the ship in readiness.

His main concern was for the boys and girls...not moving heaven and earth to keep the ship ready for action.

Did he or did he not have his 20 years? General Stinglaub had 30 when he went rogue. Lloyd Bucher of the USS Pueblo had 17 or so and was allowed to quietly complete his 20. The higher ups deserved most of the blame but scapegoats were needed.

IF he leaked it he should be relieved of command.

That said, he may have not realized that the email would be seen by many not a few, and the Pentagon leaks like a sieve................

At a minimum he allowed someone in his command to leak it and did not manage his command appropriately.

At max he also knowingly released claassified operational security information.

If he leaked it he needs court-martialed.

He leaked it. He could have sent something completely encrypted. If it got out, and hit the San Francisco newspaper, it came from him.

There is absolutely no way of knowing whether this is an ObamaCaptain disgracing himself and the US Navy, or an honest commander following all the rules who unfortunately became the victim of some pissant traitor/leaker. We may never know. All we know is that he/she/it (you never know in today’s military) was held accountable, and that the US Navy and US Military will be just fine and is feared by every enemy or potential enemy of the USA.
