As the coronavirus stretches New York City emergency rooms and paramedics to their limits, a regional EMT group has issued new guidelines almost unthinkable even days ago -- if someone's in cardiac arrest and you can't revive them in the field, don't bring them to the emergency room.
The newly implemented order that takes effect Thursday was implemented in an effort to control the surge of patients in hospitals due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The guidance from the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York City applies to the city as well as Nassau and Suffolk counties. The group, known as REMSCO, is the state-designated coordinating authority for the region.

Wanna bet some of these heart attack victims who pass away will be counted as victims of Wuhan Flu. We will never get a true number from NYC. If anything, Governor Ventilator and Mayor DeLousyo and their hapless medical officials will inflate the number of virus victims!
Nah...
Mass transit kills.
This is the old ‘throw the extra people out of the lifeboat to drown’ concept and it is wrong. They should try to save everybody.
Oh my dear G-d. How absolutely horrible.
WuHu seems to be a preferred disease.
Allowing people to die so that people don’t die. What a mess.
If you can’t revive them, they’re dead. Call the ME...
Outpatients found dead who do not respond to CPR in the field have an essentially zero intact survival after transport, I have always found this ritual in ERs to be disrespectful to the dead and to their loved ones.
What was the point in bringing that big white battleship into New York?
How about using the Defense Production Act to nationalize all abortion facilities and turn them into emergency cardiac treatment wards? We can put a few cardiologists in each one and transfer people there.
Source is NBC. They are not a reliable news source. This is a rumor until verified.
Mobile Death Panels.
My Dad is battling his second round of Salivary Gland Cancer. It’s back again, and he’s to get an MRI next week so we can see if it’s worth more surgery or radiation. (Probably not at this point, per the lat conversation I had with his Oncologist.) They won’t let me go with him, but one of the nurses aide’s where he lives will be going.
I haven’t been able to see him in 5 weeks, and we’ve only been able to talk on the phone a few times. He’s mostly out of it and doesn’t understand what’s really going on (some dementia) but it’s very hard for him to understand why I’m not coming to see him as much as I used to.
I’m not being a whiner - this Chinese Flu is making a lot of other peoples’ lives suck worse. For example, NYC Cardiac Patients! :(
Trump sent a big hospital ship to them. Are they using it?
n response to the new mandate, the FDNY has issued an order to all its EMTs with additional guidelines. According to the order, which a senior FDNY official shared with NBC News, the mandate applies only to adult patients. If an adult patient has obvious signs of death like rigor or has a do not resuscitate order, EMTs will not try to revive the patient.
How does a New Yorker give CPR?
[standing over the MI victim]: “GET UP BEFORE YOU FREAKIN’ DIE!!”
Well, it used to be funny...
Isn’t the hospital ship supposed to handle these type emergencies?
