President Trump says he has committed to American farmers to continue admitting large numbers of H-2A foreign visa workers to take agricultural jobs, even as jobless claims are set to climb above 3.3 million in the midst of the Chinese coronavirus crisis.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Trump suggested United States farms would not survive without a continuous flow of H-2A foreign visa workers who are brought to the country by farmers. There is no limit to how many H-2A foreign visa workers can be admitted to the U.S.

Farmers say they “can’t” get workers. But what if you “farmed out” that recruiting job to a go-getter? I think American workers can be found - it just takes effort.

I don’t think so. Migrants have been coming from Mexico to Michigan since at least as the late-1950’s to work the farms, especially the cherry orchards. But my understanding then was they were coming in the spring and going back and the end of harvest.

Current recipients of which, fortunately, haven’t seen a “pay cut” yet due to the current crackdown.
Farms could/would have improved their work and pay conditions by now had we not been feeding them cheap imported labor for decades. What’s worse, of course, is we’ve spread it to the rest of farming (and most labor) in the US.
They all need to go home. We need to adjust the economy to our workers and supply and demand.
But I give Trump a one-time pass on this right now, since he is fighting the push to crash us to an economic apocalypse—and we don’t need our domestic food supply disrupted right now.
I’d be happy to oay more for a salad then f I knew that the natives were harvesting it. Farmers have a wage problem disguised as a labor shortage.

I lived in a small farming town where the population more than doubled at watermelon harvest time. It's brutal.
In a conversation with 2 farmers:
Farmer 1:"Do you think these hands smoke marijuana?"
Farmer 2: "Gawd,I hope so."
