The Treasury announced late Wednesday that Social Security beneficiaries who typically do not file a tax return will automatically get the $1,200 payment.
The announcement is a reversal from earlier in the week when the Internal Revenue Service said everyone would need to file some sort of tax return in order to qualify for the payments. Democrats and some Republicans criticized the IRS for requiring so many extra hurdles for this vulnerable population to get aid when the government already has their information on file.
The reversal came as the Trump administration tries to rapidly get stimulus payments out to Americans in the face of the quickest economic decline in modern history.
Social Security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return need to take no action, and will receive their payment directly to their bank account, said Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.

Thank you for posting this.
I read about it earlier in The Hill but it is of great help to those here on SS and those who have parents on SS who don’t file taxes.
What a relief.
I would have had to do it for mom
I will not accept mine. This entire scheme is a fiasco.
Somebody is actually taking control of these Deep State mini-states?
IRS has already updated their coronavirus webpage to reflect the new information about social security recipients:
https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus
i’m gonna accept mine but give it some of my poorer relatives who really need it ...
If your mom already gets a Social Security check, why would she need an additional $1200?
Direct Deposit. Straight to your account.
Venezuela, here we come!
This latest Stimulus Pkg itself says SS folks do not have to file...and that they will use the SSA-1099's. It's right in the text.
Yes indeed, true conservatives should send it back, with additional money to help pay down the national debt.
Nice to know my dad’s gonna get one...’course he’s been dead for 25 years and never lived in East L.A.
Hopefully, before the IRS issues its payments, they will check their potential payments against Social Securitys death file and not issue payments to those whose death has been recorded. And the Social Security Administration will check and not issue DUPLICATE payments to those who have already had payments made by the IRS (assuming, of course, that the IRS pays first) and to not issue a payment to someone who had not received a payment from the IRS because of excess income.
SSA-1099’s are not enough by themselves as they don’t contain the direct deposit information; SSA-1099’s just prove one has a SS number, so the IRS also has to access the direct deposit info the Social Security Administration maintains, which shouldn’t be a big deal ... cheaper than setting up some whole new procedure to get that information ...
I will not accept mine. This entire scheme is a fiasco.

A large percentage of them are undocumented asylum seekers. For some of them not speaking english makes them eligible for SSI disability.
