I get SS every month so don’t get me wrong but...
Why do they think they need to help break the bank to give seniors extra money besides their regular checks? They truly are trying to destroy this great economy is all I can think.

In 2008, SS folks had to file. But the text of the stimulus package said the SS folks didn’t have to file. I believe the screw up was some doofus at the IRS......not Mnuchin.

I get SS but still have to work and file taxes to help my kids pay their bills and to feed the one one still living in the basement

These people are real professional benefit queens. Estimate they are at minimum bring in $4k to $5k a month now an additional 1200 each. This whole crap is getting out of control.
They are promoting the very stupid idea that the government has money of its own. It does not. So now less taxes are going in and more money is going out to make it all better. Yeah, that’ll work...in asshole land...
You get free money, they get free money, neighbor gets free money .... ridiculous. There is no free money. Why do SS recipients get mote money. They were not impacted. Why does my neighbor get free money if they haven’t been impacted. This idea that uncle Sugar sending out checks to all the people who don’t pay tax anyway is stupid. How about send everyone 10% of taxes paid back including payroll taxes. Free money sucks.

To the poster who thinks that SS is not taxable income, that is incorrect.
SS is not subject to SS taxes. 80% of SS IS subject to federal income tax laws. Whether one pays taxes on it depends on what one’s *total* income is when that 80% is included in one’s earned income.
I’m not arguing the right or wrong of that - only telling you the law.
What all of you should appreciate is that the President told that A Hole reporter that illegal aliens are not entitled to free money because they are here illegally and that we are citizens losing our jobs. IOW, the first President with the stones to actually say out loud that Americans come before illegal aliens. And he said it at a nationally televised press conference to a crapload of hostile, leftist “reporters”.
As I understand it, the “free” money will be taxed as earned income. So the sum of the money you receive is NOT what you are really getting. Local, state, and federal taxes will take their bite. Just more smoke and mirrors fooling you into thinking your are getting more than you really are. Why not make the checks $300 less and not taxable? For the same reason most people think paying Amazon $35 and free shipping is a better deal than paying $30 and $5 shipping. Duh.
