The U.K. saw its largest single-day death toll from the coronavirus Tuesday with 563 deaths, according to data released by the British government Wednesday.
The 31 percent spike brings the national total to 2,352 deaths. As of Wednesday morning, 29,474 people in the U.K. have tested positive for the virus. The new deaths included 16 in Scotland, 29 in Wales and two in Northern Ireland.
The nations Office for National Statistics reported earlier this week that the illness accounted for 1 percent of all deaths in England and Wales, with 103, for the week ending March 20.

The “full” lock down only started 10 days ago.
It isn’t full and virtually no-one is wearing a mask.
If you actually look at the chart, it’s almost as if they were stockpiling bodies - or something.

These articles never report the impact on the overall death rate.
In the UK, the 2019 death rate was .9398%, over a population of 66.4 million. So you would expect about 624,000 people to die every year from all causes, which is about 52,000 a month.
It would be interesting to see a graph of all deaths by month - probably not much of a spike overall.
When they order and enforce mosques closed and arrest gatherings of muslims...we will know they are serious.
Nevertheless, it’s cumulative over a period of several. It has to be logged as death/population....whether state/county/Town/Village.
Normally only about 1,700 people die per day in the UK, so COVID was responsible for 25-33% of all deaths in the UK yesterday. That’s significant and shows the power of this virus.
OTOH, unlike those other causes of death, COVID will stop killing people once “herd immunity” is reached.
Boris made some pretty grim statements about the virus, and this was before he caught it.
The reports from Italy were that Bat Soup Syndrome mostly took people who were soon expected to shuffle off this mortal coil because of other causes, so it only makes sense that it would displace those causes in the stats.

Yeah, displacement would be the high end figure (33%).
If these were net surplus deaths the figure would be 25%.
Big question: are they logging as COVID deaths just the people who actually die primarily from COVID (pneumonia)?
Or are they doing like Italy has been doing, and logging any death as COVID if the patient tests positive for COVID, even if the actual cause of death was heart attack, cancer, etc?
Looks like UK just getting warmed up.
That’s still “only” 2300 deaths total after a month.
And yet that Imperial College study just 2 weeks ago was predicting 500,000 dead in the UK??
No freaking way that’s possible at this rate.

In Poland we went into lockdown 2,5 weeks ago on the 16th if march.
Right now our death toll is 36. High but not yet scary.
We are tightening the lockdown. Hopefully it works
Buy stocks in funeral homes and casket makers. Probably most are privately owned with no public stocks issued.
Over 80% were over 65. Looks like average age is close to 70.

It would be interesting to see what the daily total of deaths is for this week. The report mentions about 563 covid deaths. If the total is 2,200+ then all/most of the covid deaths are excess deaths that would not otherwise have happened.
If the total is much closer to 1,700 then some of the deaths are people who would have died anyway and are dying “with” the disease rather than “from” it.
Another thing to look at will be the annual rate. It is possible that later in the year there may be a slightly lower than normal death rate because people who would otherwise have died in say September/October died earlier due to covid.
