Atlanta hospitals overwhelmed by coronavirus patients
CBS News ^ | Mar 25,2020

At Atlanta's Grady Hospital, all 100 beds in the intensive care unit were full. Then COVID-19 hit. Viral patients are now quarantined wherever the hospital finds space.

"The stress is not just capacity," Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Jansen told CBS News. "It's not just stress of supplies, but on the individuals taking care of the patients. Because so much is not known."

At all of Atlanta's four major hospitals, every ICU bed is taken.

"Just kinda deteriorated," said Justin Anthony, whose cousin is in one of those hospitals. "By Sunday, the fever had not broken and she started coughing.

His cousin, Emma, is 12, one of Georgia's youngest coronavirus patients. Emma's hooked to a ventilator at Atlanta's Children Hospital.

In Alabama, a newborn baby girl is in isolation after her nurse tested positive for COVID-19.

Back in Georgia, at one rural hospital, 12 COVID-19 patients have died. That's more than in thirty-eight states. The hospital is overwhelmed.

"They've asked for help, but we can't give it," Jansen said.

I think a lot of MD’s began prescribing the HCQ over the past week.

That would be superb news.

Ditto empty hospitals.

I believe I saw somewhere it is 20% of the people who show up to the Hospital is admitted. Then 3% of those that show up need ICU. The rest just go home, relax and recover.

And here comes the biggest idiot.. Grady was already full. ANY outbreak of anything would overfill them, in fact they are always beyond capacity. Your comrades in the media found a convenient place for your/their narrative. In the real world, Atlanta has tons of hospitals and beds. And there are relatively few dire cases here anyway. I know this city like the back of my hand so take your weak shit elsewhere.

Well you certainly seem to have an answer for Atlanta. Care to speculate about WHY everyplace else in the world experienced the SAME EXACT thing if they didn't take any steps for it NOT to happen?

I’ve done contract work at Grady Hospital several times, once for an entire year. It is a $hithole. One of the nastiest places I’ve ever been, especially behind the scenes. My vehicle has been broken into once in my lifetime - a block from Grady. I’ve seen huge rats, human feces, a lower roof covered with used needles. Third world inhabitants.

If you were in a foxhole you would tell everyone there you expect them to all die and cheer each guy that got shot.

What a damn loser.

Hopefully none of your family gets it. Those poor people will have to see your sick ass stand in the corner with a massive grin pumping his fist with joy.

Boston is dense but not like New York. Also the Mayor of Boston did a good job early like canceling the Saint Patrick’s day parade. Also due to luck as the large population of college students had left for spring break.

Yep, Grady is where the gang bangers wind up when they take a round. Also, it’s a good place for anybody suffering traumatic injury. Grady Hospital is supposed to have one of the best trauma units in the country. This is due to the fact they are smack in the middle of downtown ATL, and they get lots and lots of practice with major injuries.

“Glad, VERY glad, to hear your in-person observations! I genuinely hope this COVID thing isn’t that bad after all.”

Laz, I have been all over Atlanta for the past few weeks. Shoot, I have been in parts of Ball Ground and Canton down to McDonough. I am not seeing what is falsely being reported. Construction is good and working on. Fast food is open. Food trucks are making hay. Shops are taking their wares outside for sale.

Like Calvin Coolidge said, “America’s business is business.”

Let’s get back to it all.

The worst part of the Chinese Virus for me so far has been the toll it's taken on my knees from climbing over stacks of dead bodies just trying to get to the store to get toilet paper.

...that and the bitter taste of aquarium cleaner.

I can't wait for the miracle of the blue state bailout to end this virus.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these.

Here is my take, it is not a common flu. It is worst then the flu but not a Spanish Flu. I am not a just a flu person. After watching how other nation responded to this I take it seriously.

You do not need a garage full of paper towels and dehydrated steak. The stores will still be open. They were still open in China and they got hit hard. Not sure what the TP issue was.

You only need to stock your shelves like you are preparing for an Ice Storm, I always have a couple weeks of food in my house before this. You do not need a 1000 mask, gas mask, chemical suit, or tons of ammo what every you image the people are doing..

You really only need some good old plain hand soap, and beware of people around you they could be sick and not know it. I do carry hand sanitizer for those bathrooms without soap. Soap works better.

No gloom and doom, you just need to have some common sense.

The only reason I have a mask (not a gas mask) is because my wife has a cancer that is extremely rare with no options and this could kill her because there is no treatment. I sleep in the other room when I am sick.

If you have a condition you should take extra steps to protect yourself.

The sad thing is President Trump has been saying the same thing Gloom and Doom people (what people are calling them here) have been saying.

Trump will throw out the word flu every now and them, that does not mean he thinks it just a flu, he is trying to calm people down. If it was just a flu, I am sure he would not shut down the economy.

Everybody thinks there is some big plot to keep President Trump from being re-elected. I find that hilarious, there is no far left wing conspiracy about coronovirus besides China pushing fake news out there. The re-election is President Trumps to loose. He would have to do something really stupid.

“canceling the Saint Patrick’s day parade”

New Orleans should have shut down Mardi Gras. They would have been better off now.
