Gun Sales Soar When People Need Protection
Townhall ^ | March 18, 2020 | John R. Lott, Jr.

Police are cutting back on policing, and Americans are getting scared. Along with toilet paper, they are also buying guns and ammunition. Some are getting concealed handgun permits.

“So American … I’ll shoot the virus! … We don’t do smart stuff in this country,” joked Bill Maher on Friday on his HBO show, “Real Time.” It is easy for Mr. Maher to make fun of people’s fears, but one can easily imagine the social turmoil that will ensue if shortages become more severe or if lots of police fall ill.

The SCOTUS ruled many years ago that the police HAVE NO LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY to protect individual citizens. About time people figured that out.

Gee, is there a sudden liking for the 2nd amendment? Odd how that works. Some of us are NOT surprised. And, there could be some awesome buys in about 6 months. :-)

One example: City of Detroit said it needed to hire around 100 new officers to replace losses and to fully police the city. That was a few weeks ago.

Now the virus has claimed nearly 100 officers (one dispatcher dead so far, RIP) who are quarantined and may be tested as positive soon.

Guess the cities with Dem mayors will all have to rely upon the character, honesty and straight forward public spirited decency of the urban population during this difficult time.
How will that work out?

Maher is so funny./s

Let’s see him go out without his armed limo driver to get home during a coming urban riot with about 50% police force strength and prisoners released early to reduce CV threat and court paperwork. Major roads closed by protestors. Only criminals with guns. He may “die laughing” over his own material.

Personally I think if you wait until the s..t hits the fan to buy a firearm then you probably are too dumb to use one. It takes practice. Even a revolver which is about as simple as you can get. (And should be a good choice for a first gun) takes practice to reliably hit your target. But I guess if it makes them feel better...

My only restriction on gun sales would be to add a 300% tax and a 90 day waiting period for anyone who votes Democrat.

Gun sales also soar when the government becomes untruthworthy.

The time to buy a gun is before you are faced with a situation in which you wish you had one. That"s also the time to practice with your gun. Get one, and become proficient with it, before the bad guy comes through your door.

“We don’t do smart stuff in this country,” joked Bill Maher...

Of any one of these condescending elites ever had to live among any of us in our towns without their personal security you’d better believe they’d want to own their own firearms.

Even if you are being attacked right in front of them.

Which is why firing the deputy who hid during the florida school shooting seemed technically excessive because of the SCOTUS ruling.

Not that i defend him, but SCOTUS’s ruling doesn’t require him to do that, so how can you technically fire him for notmprotecting them when SCOTUS declares he has no legal responsibility to do so.

I point this out as an area that needs a clearer ruling.

***The time to buy a gun is before you are faced with a situation***

How true. I still love to chide Californians about having to wait 10 days to pick up their new handgun, when THEY NEED IT NOW! Just like in the LA riots years ago.

Rat controlled blu state politicians are passing laws that allow looting with no jail time or arrest, closing gun stores so you cant protect yourself or your family, opening the jails with the corona virus excuse, basically creating a chaos situation.

It appears the Los Angeles County Council has overruled the
Sheriff, and has deemed gun stores to be an essential
business.

He is now backtracking on closing gun stores.

Will have to admit being shocked by this.

While folks were out panic-buying TP last week, I went to “Shoots Straight” to buy ammo! Couldn’t fall down in the place! It was packed as I’ve never seen it!
