LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County Sheriff told FOX 11 on Tuesday night that enforcement efforts to close down local gun stores have been suspended after intervention from the countys legal counsel.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva told FOX 11 reporter Bill Melugin that county counsel Mary Wickham issued an opinion that gun stores can be classified as essential businesses under the Governors statewide executive order.
Sheriff Villanueva everything is now in limbo, and added he reached out to the Governors office to get clarification on how gun stores should be classified, but never got a response.
Up until the legal opinion, Villanueva said a majority of gun shops were complying with his order to close down.
The Sheriff maintained that he believes gun stores should not be open to the general public right now because he feels there are too many first time buyers making panic purchases of guns they dont know how to operate and they arent familiar with Californias strict laws.
You cant shoot a virus, Villanueva said.

Fox 11 Los Angeles hires journ-O-lists who don’t know it’s spelled COUNCIL.
Maybe the sheriff got a call from his bosses in the Mexican Mafia.
Buy as much as you can. Send a message. Buy American made.
No, but you can shoot someone who is taking advantage of the virus!
-gun stores are exempted by law from such shutdowns--
Tyrants hate an armed citizenry.
I feel the same way about voting, sherrif.
Its spelled correctly for the context.
I think, in the context of the article, counsel is right. It would have been less confusing to use the term lawyers/attorneys.
I am an infantry and armor combat veteran. I was a small arms and tank gunnery instructor, with 26 years combined active duty and National Guard service. I was a police firearms instructor and a SWAT team member. I beleive that the superb firearm training that I received throughout my careers saved my life. I believe in the need for good firearms training absolutely and completely.
However, this sheriff has just conditioned the RKBA’s upon his unstated notion of what level of training that a law-abiding citizen must have PRIOR to the exercise of a constitutional right. This action amounts to a defacto conversion of that constitutional right into a privilege for an elite.
If you want to ensure that citizens get good training, then offer a legislated tax break for completion of official certified training, or something similar.

I bought the kel-tec pmr-30 a few weeks ago to go with my revolver.

“Fox 11 Los Angeles hires journ-O-lists who dont know its spelled COUNCIL.”
LOL! One time you should have NOT posted! You are incorrect.
“It would have been less confusing to use the term lawyers/attorneys.”
Legal counsel is not confusing.
So this clown doesnt trust law abiding (you have to pass a background check to buy a gun) citizens to make their own decisions, but he is emptying his jails, sending criminals into neighborhoods.
Your bottom-line point that Fox 11 employs bottom-feeder journalists is doubtless true--but I don't think the spelling of the word "counsel" in this context is admissible as evidence. You notice that the "counsel" is identified as an individual, not a group. That suggests that the title refers not to a council of several advisors, but to a lawyer whose job is to advise the county on legal positions it is weighing.
In that case, should "County Counsel" have been capitalized, since it is the title of a specific office? You bet, ignorant journo-lists!
Villanueva can get the Chinese virus for all I care.
Gun grabbing piece of crap!
