Ohio pharmacy board restricts prescriptions for experimental coronavirus treatment drugs
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | Mar 21, 2020 | Lucas Sullivan

Ohio doctors are obtaining so many prescriptions of a possible coronavirus treatment for themselves, their families, their colleagues and their friends that it’s wiping out the supply for everybody else -- including victims of Lupus who will become more susceptible to the virus without their usual medication.

As a result, Ohio’s pharmacy board, in an emergency meeting Sunday morning, barred pharmacists from dispensing chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 unless a person has tested positive for the virus or otherwise approved by the pharmacy board’s executive director.

In order to get either of those drugs the patient’s positive test must be disclosed by the doctor on the prescription request. The prescription must be limited to a 14-day supply and no refills are permitted without a new written prescription.

Bad behavior. But in a way the fact that doctors are hoarding the meds is a good sign.

O.K. But the Ohio pharmacy board, in a coordinated effort (telephone conference call and followup public letter) with other state pharmacy boards, should be seeking for the drug manufactures to increase their production of hydroxychloroquine. Why? Because it is a supply issue and it is not as if the supply going to the pharmacies could not be increased. They experience the supply problem but restricting its use by the pharmacy is only one half of the solution. The other is increased production. They can publicly make that case with more affect than can the individual patients and doctors seeking to use the drug.

I thought it was toilet paper that cured the virus.

Israel is sending hydroxychloroquine to the US.

Bayer is sending meds also.

Our “Guardians” looking out for themselves first, at the expense of everyone else?

Same thing happens in EVERY Zombie movie.

As a big Zombie-pocky-clipse movie fan, I’m seeing more and more “truth” evident in these goofy movies.
Human nature never changes.

When this is all over, punish the doctors at same penalty as when they give drugs to people who don’t need them (which is the case now).

OK.

I’m a 64 yo former ER doc working Urgent Care now.

We do not have appropriate PPE because it’s just not available.

Every time I work I am exposed to about 40 people, lots with fever, cough, sore throat etc. Our office has had several people test positive for Covid 19 already and we’ve only been testing for a week or so.

What do you think the odds of my getting sick, and passing it on to my wife who is 62 and has arthritis and valvular heart disease?

Doctors, medical staff and their families should be first. They are at higher risk and we need them to provide the medical care.

Losing medical workers to illness in large numbers will crash the system the same as to many patients at once.

Stop whining, America, suck it up and do what needs doing.

If the drug isn’t a cure, Dr. Fauci, why are physicians in Ohio hoarding it for themselves and their families?

But until those donated drugs are vetted and get into distribution chain....ya dont want the people, “who know someone”, to get their personal “emergency supply” before the people who really need it get their potentially life saving supply. A reasonable policy considering that now ya’ gotta be first in the store to get tp and pt.
