You’re an idiot, as I said WEST of Yellowstone, which it is. It is also SOUTH of Yellowstone. I was using the Rocky Mountains as the base line (Yellowstone is in the Rockies), and the Rockies are on a north-south axis generally, and are representative of the continental divide. So, something is either east or west of that line or divide. But, if you wish to be more specific, then you can just check the coordinates of Yellowstone and SLC, and you will clearly see that SLC is west of Yellowstone, and not that far west.

As for geology, I guess my geology professors in college were wrong about volcanology, and the relationship between earthquakes and volcanic activity. Perhaps you are unaware that volcanology is a branch of geology.

I just checked your page. I, too, worked in military intelligence (USAFSS), but several years before you; and the antenna complex you show is quite similar to the elephant cage we used back in the day.

So, perhaps you recall FIXES and LOBs, in which case you’d necessarily have to agree that SLC is not far west of Yellowstone (more south than west, to be sure, but west of the Rockies, which was my line of reference).

We are so used to hearing BOOMs here people just ignore them.

We had a field service rep from Atlanta come to our factory to service one of our machines back in the late 80’s.

While he was doing his work, the AF dropped a big bomb on one of the nearby ranges, maybe 10 miles or so as the crow flies.

The whole building shook and he just about dived under the machine table for safety!

He looked around at everybody else on the factory floor and nobody was doing anything different, just doing their job like nothing happened. We are so used to hearing this type of stuff nobody was startled and he was embarrassed!...............

Is it raining frogs anywhere?

Maybe they are sneaking in from Quebec.

Salt Lake airport is completely closed, all incoming flights are being diverted, all outgoing are grounded. They’re right next to the epicenter.

SLC Airport webpage says: “The Airport is not currently operational. The FAA tower has been evacuated. Please do not come to the airport until further notice.”

It also depends on how close one is to the epicentre.

You’d think cracking would follow the mortar, not go right through the brick.

The Wasatch Front:

The vast majority of the population lives right on top of the fault. Haven't felt one like this since the early sixties.

Decades ago I remember being shook in my bed between 4 and 5 in the morning. Apparently it was something centred in upstate NY. Around the Lake Placid area. Toronto isn’t known for much shaking but it was mentioned at the time there is a fault line running underneath Lake Ontario
