I grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The ground there is, indeed, subsiding from all the water the Potash mines required to refine Potash.
Tucson is also.

It’s centered a couple of miles NE of Kennecott’s Copper Mine, the mile-deep hole in the ground.

The Harbinger, changed my outlook on events in this country.
Now I am beginning to see things in the light of God using them to get our attention.
He’s still in control and He still wants us to turn to Him.

5.7 near airport. Got to be some damage in the valley. Shook house in Sandy. We live in what used to be Lake Bonneville so most of the valley is subject to liquefaction. Power still on here. Lasted it seemed about 30 seconds. Felt like the house was a boat in stormy seas. We're about 20-25 miles from the epicenter. Just got a call, power out in a good part of the valley. Oh and it's raining today.

about 5 miles west of the airport. Might be some damage there. Some water leaks reported from Magna.

Yep!
Folks had better wake up now. This collapse isn’t going to stop until we do, but most will not heed the warnings.

Felt it in Ogden area. They’re now reporting 5.7. I thought I was having some kind of medical issue at first.
To: John W
That’s a brick facade. Not structural. But all buildings will have to be inspected. 5.7 is classified as a moderate earthquake. If you were near the epicenter it would feel strong though. Especially if you’ve never felt an earthquake before.

Having windows replaced today. Had it scheduled for 2 months. Installer just called and said most the newly made windows in the warehouse fell and broke. Mine were on the truck already, so ok. Power out there.
Felt a couple of small aftershocks so far.
To: Red Badger
There’s a test range to the west of the apparent epicenter but I doubt an ‘oops’ over the town of Magna would be that big. Don’t know how deep this was yet. Maybe someone reported that a shipment of toilet paper arrived and the weight of people for miles around descending on that one spot shifted a tectonic plate.

All Weber County schools are closed for damage evaluation. I’m sure that’s true for schools all up and down the Wasatch Front.
