Governments love crises because when the people are fearful they are more willing to give up freedoms for promises that the government will take care of them. After 9/11, for example, Americans accepted the near-total destruction of their civil liberties in the PATRIOT Acts hollow promises of security.
It is ironic to see the same Democrats who tried to impeach President Trump last month for abuse of power demanding that the Administration grab more power and authority in the name of fighting a virus that thus far has killed less than 100 Americans.
Declaring a pandemic emergency on Friday, President Trump now claims the power to quarantine individuals suspected of being infected by the virus and, as Politico writes, stop and seize any plane, train or automobile to stymie the spread of contagious disease. He can even call out the military to cordon off a US city or state.
State and local authoritarians love panic as well. The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, signed an executive order declaring the power to ban the sale of guns and alcohol and cut off gas, water, or electricity to any citizen. The governor of Ohio just essentially closed his entire state.
The chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration is without a doubt Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci is all over the media, serving up outright falsehoods to stir up even more panic. He testified to Congress that the death rate for the coronavirus is ten times that of the seasonal flu, a claim without any scientific basis.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump doesn’t cure COVID-19 by removing the central bank system, removing debt interest, and moving to a national bank. Could all happen in the next 6 weeks and the financials and public sentiment is ripe for it.
Per the CDC the number of CONFIRMED seasonal flu cases the year in the US is 222,552 with 22,000 deaths. Using your math that would make the mortality rate 10%.
The number of confirmed coronavirus case in the US is 4743 with 93 deaths. Using the same math, the mortality rate is 1.9%.
I did not use estimated cases for either the flu or cv, yet you, the media and several doomers in here insist on adding the estimated cases to the flu number lowering the mortality rate to 0.1%. Add estimated low/no symptom cases to cv and the mortality rate will likely be lower than flu.
Ephesians 6:12 KJV For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness ...
Everything you explained is true of me, too. I have been saying, here and within my family, that something is desperately wrong about what is going on.
‘2) its politically convenient to blow it way out of proportion to make Trump look bad and tank the economy.’
I would agree, but the problem is the fatalities in other countries that are not directly impacted by US political tussles...how would a devious cabal control for that...?
If the 'leaders' want to do this right; they should just quarantine those over 60; as they are the ones who'll get the; uh; short end of the stick.
Of course; that would put most of our 'rulers' at home; too.
Ha ! I think your 'WV crud' must've hopped the border because I've been battling the damned thing for about six weeks now.
Had a flu shot late last year, for all the good it did.
From now on I'm gonna blame it on y'all ;-)
That was Chief Iron Eyes Fauci and he knew exactly what he was doing.
Stroke of the pen; law of the land. Kinda cool!
We've now gotten mere state governors with the POWER to shut down restaurants; sporting events you name it...
What a RUSH that must be!
Not crazy in the least bit.
'Neck hair standing up' territory.
Great post !
That’s where we’re headed: burger meat
While CHICE had about a third that many UNregistered ones!
“This is a farce.”
Tell that you Italy where the dead are being stacked like cord wood.
Whatta mean, "Have we reached . . ."? Try, "Been there, done that".
JMHo, of course.
I’m quite aware that the Constitutional Republic has been in a death spiral. However, I am saddened by the lack of defenders of liberty (who have a hunger to recover it) in our community. By the way why is it that so many posters feel it necessary to insult someone here with whom they have a difference of opinion?
Frustration
“This virus scares me. We are looking at potential numbers like the 1917-1919 pandemic, which also started small.”
You’re democrat troll is showing. This not what you or they claim it to be.
Everyone has a different opinion. That’s right OPINION. The 100 opinions that the media and others have spewed have caused the panic and the economy crash that will cause more deaths than the Woo Hoo flu does. All to get back at Trump and his supporters. This crash will take a decade to recover from if it goes on much longer.
People people everywhere, but I'd rather do my txts
You’ll get no argument about that from me.
