I joked about this on Friday afternoon.
Everything I expected to do for the next month or so is shut down. The ACC tournament and the NCAA tournament have been canceled. The Players (golf) was canceled. The Masters is at least postponed. The ECAC Hockey tournament was canceled. The horse races in Kentucky I expected to attend in Kentucky in three weeks will be run run no spectators. My synagogue was closed. (First time someone in my family didn’t have the option to attend Shabbbat services since my family left Berlin in 1938.) The Metropolitan Opera is closed. While I was pissing and moaning about all this on Friday I wondered to folks whether they were going to close the Liquor Stores.
My club was open so I went there today. (I guess the Governor doesn’t know about this yet.) I watched horse races from around the country, all run without spectators. Not that I care about Aqueduct (racetrack in Queens, NY) anymore, it’s a complete dump now, mostly turned into an ersatz casino. But I noticed when they showed races from there, that there were LOTS of cars in the parking lot. I guess people can go to the casino but they must not be allowed to look at the horses.
INSANITY !

Is this just Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores in PA or is this a State memoranda?
Article states that this is just a chain in PA doing this from what I read.
This might be the straw that finally broke the camel’s back. PA needs to privatize all alcoholic beverage sales. Period. Don’t take no for an answer.
Rat Governor? This is going to go over like a fart in church.
They will be rioting in PA within a week.
I texted your link to my sis and BIL. They took need and went out to stock up. Said it was a mad house in Abington.
Nothing like STATE controlled Prohibition era f-ing BS of the “ABC” store. People will just go to other states. This “crisis” is going full ‘tard.
OK, NOW this is a CRISIS!!!
Moonshiners and bootleggers rejoice.
In the 70’s State Store service was so slow the plague would be over before you got your booze.
Two weeks. After two weeks of no work, no bar, no restaurant, no movies, no bus, nobody within 6 feet and no toilet paper, I think tempers will flare and there will be a lot of people flipping their lids and acting uncivilized.
There will be blood flowing in the streets of Philly.
Chester and Delaware Counties border New Castle County, Delaware.
Liquor is about 20% cheaper south of the border plus NO State sales tax.
Getting serious now...impacting the state treasury. Not to mention alcoholics.
SAY WHAT?? Break out the AR-14’s!!!!
OK, now it’s serious.
Why on earth would they cut people off from liquor and wine?
State liquor stores, state employees.
And the union said “shut ‘er down”.
That’s why.
That’s also why after all this is over the people of PA will ensure those state employees are out of a job.
Sheesh. Cutting off whisky to for the needy.
It doesn’t get any colder and heartless than that.
Aside from sales to non-addicted people, liquor stores serve a surprisingly large number of alcoholics with real problems. Im not sure the smart thing right now is to burden our medical facilities and staff further by antagonizing other medical conditions.
Color me confused, what has the sale of alcohol or the imbibing of alcohol got to do with the coronavirus? Is there some dumb-ass at the top of Pennsylvania that thinks the virus is transmitted by drinking Corona beer?
