There's been a run on toilet paper and other "emergency" supplies over the course of the last week as we wait to learn just how serious the coronavirus epidemic will be in the U.S. Shoppers, including PJM's Megan Fox, are reporting empty shelves at grocery stores, and now even Amazon, the nation's largest online retailer, is running short on toilet paper.
Keep in mind that the Wuhan virus is not a gastrointestinal ailment. While a case can be made that it might be prudent to stock on things like hand sanitizer, Tylenol, and cough syrup, you're not likely to need a 200-roll case of toilet paper in the next few weeks—unless, of course, you're unlucky enough to be quarantined. Apparently, people are not taking chances:

PLENTY of cough medicine and cold medicine. Pharmacy is fully stocked. Tons of food everywhere....
But the toilet paper is gone! The hysteria over TP is so bad that there is reports of actual fist fighting over it and people hoarding it in their shopping carts.
As Amazon goes, so goes the nation.
No TP an no hand sanitizer in San Antonio Sam’s club as well. Media panic.

I just bought 2 12 roll packs at CVS.

They were $4 off on their circular. Fully stocked shelves.
I bought 6 giant hand sanitizers at Christmas for flu season, We’re not even through half of one.
My sister is ‘woke’ and chose not to join the panic.
She’s not too hot on paper towels, but she says it’s better than nothing.

Did it a few times to fill a Pantry order, not in a year or so, though. Do not have the space to create a warehouse for TP.
I have heard that people fear being quarantined and running out of TP.
There was none at our local grocery today.

No TP in Sam’s this morning water limited to 2 cases though. My mother is using up the tp; dementia she forgets she just peed but remembers she needs to pee.

I can’t comprehend why anyone waited this long. I stocked up three weeks ago when it became obvious there would be little time to do otherwise.
I went to stores before 7 am when the aisles were empty and the shelves were newly stocked.
I was surprised to discover that two of my co-workers have done nothing at all to stock up and are now worried.
Toilet paper...can anyone believe it?
