So what’s the difference between a ‘meeting’ and an ‘emergency meeting?’
How do we determine this meeting is the latter rather than the former?
I hope he’s going to get the docs to try to calm everybody down, because the media is nuts. If we reported every new case of the flu going the year, people would be cowering in terror. But we don’t. So why is this different?
Incidentally, I recently saw an article pointing out that people are not canceling travel because they’re worried about the disease, but about government overreaction, such as mass quarantine, that would make them unable to leave. That’s what I did last week because I was going to New York but nyc was fantasizing about shutting down public transit and locking up the city.

I read the story at the link. There is a hearing this morning and they’ve asked to have the administration witnesses to a WH meeting at 11:45 AM. The story mentioned this cut into representatives opening remarks so they could get to questions.

Not true. The Corona virus has been around a long time. It is often CURRENTLY referred to as Cov-19, because it is a particular strain of Corona identified in 2019. Like all flu type viruses it mutates constantly and each year has distinct differences from what was identified in the prior year(s). That is why the flu vaccine is a new vaccine every year, as they try to keep up with the latest strains of a virus.
1. They will develop a vaccine for Cov-19. It is likely only weeks, if at most months away.
2. The Cov-19 vaccine will be modified and made new each year, as Cov-19, like other flu-type viruses will develop slightly new strains every year.

Keep your anxieties at home. Society does not need you out and about panicking everyone else. Get on home delivery for your groceries.

The best thing to do when there is panic is to release the facts:
There are different non COVID-19 serological subtypes of the coronavirus that are widespread in the American population. Most people infected are either asymptomatic, have cold like symptoms but some develop pneumonia that can result in respiratory failure and death. The key point is that susceptibility to serious illness from these already widespread coronaviruses depends on the genetic susceptibility and possibly the underlying frailty or medical condition of any given individual. This is true of all pathogens.
Thus far the vast majority of people who are becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID-19 have been Asians and elderly people with underlying immune compromise or pulmonary disease. That is not to say that others don’t become infected by this virus, but appear not to become seriously ill or die. Thus far there have been no China or Korea like outbreaks in the US, ICUs are not full of people in respiratory failure with chest CT scans demonstrating “ground glass” infiltrates. Thousands travelled from the Wusan epicenter to multiple points in the United States from Dec 15 -Jan 23. The virus is here and when diagnostic modalities become readily available, many will be found to be infected but relatively few will have become seriously ill or have died. It should be noted that few if any of the Caucasians and Africans living and working in Wusan are known to have became seriously ill or died.
It bears repeating that the region in Italy that had the outbreak is heavily populated with Chinese immigrants and Asian workers. The modern Iranian population has a large Chinese component in its genome. The Silk Road and innumerable Chinese caravans transversed Iran and the Mongols once conquered it.
If the CDC and the WHO were to take the politically incorrect path and release data which included the race, age and underlying mortality of those who have contracted this virus, much of the panic would resolve.

Im for a full on nationwide quarantine for 3-4 weeks. Would allow us to get the thing under control. Yes, we’d all take a hit but not to the degree that we will if it spreads exponentially here soon.

Trump said 10 days ago people from Italy and other high rate countries would be questioned and have their temperature taken when entering this country. This has not been happening. People are walking right through customs.
Trump needs to clean house and bring down the hammer on these agencies or this is going to get out of control.
At the risk of being pounced on for being politically incorrect and ignorant (which has happened a lot on this board lately), could there be something genetically that makes Asians more susceptible to this virus?

Not according to Dr. Anthony Fauci. A "candidate" vaccine may be weeks or months away, but as he's told us numerous times, best case of getting through all the different levels of testing needed so they don't accidentally harm (or kill) people with said vaccine is 12-18 months out. He's also described that as "light speed" and "the fastest rollout of a human vaccine in history".
Anyone expecting a vaccine available for us to take in "weeks, if at most months" is going to be sorely disappointed.
