Hourly wage workers at McDonald’s Corp on Tuesday sought paid sick leave for those working at its U.S. restaurants and an update to the safety protocols as coronavirus cases in the United States rise.

The burger chain has not trained or given any guidelines on the epidemic, McDonald's cooks and cashiers associated with labor group Fight for $15 and a Union said.

Maurilia Arellanes, a McDonald’s worker in California, said on a media call organized by the labor group that she cannot afford to take a day off if she is sick.

“McDonald’s needs to step up and do everything it can to make sure workers like me are safe and that if we do get sick, we can take time off to get better without falling behind on our bills,” she said.

When the outbreak was first reported in China late last year and the company said in January it does not see a big financial hit as it only collected royalty fees from China.

It last week decided to cancel its biennial in-person worldwide convention, attended by operators from around the world and set to take place in a few weeks. It will now hold a digital convention.

“The company canceled a meeting of executives and franchisees, but it’s not making any plans for us frontline workers, who cannot afford to take a day off without pay if we get sick,” said Fran Marion, a McDonald’s worker in Kansas City, Missouri.

Just tell them stay at home then - permanently.

In the coronavirus White House team presser last evening Trump said this was a serious issue and they were “looking into doing something about it”.

He’s already onboard with paid family leave. We’re gonna get the Bernie platform on the installment plan. No matter who is POTUS.

So these people will come to work sick, hide their symptoms and put the virus on your food. That’s yummy. By the way. That’s how fast food works and how the flue is spread. Sick workers who come to work because they can’t afford to not come to work. They probably would be fired if they don’t show up. In spite of being sick. But no worries. You can share the virus with your friends.

Contemplating when to pull the trigger on not eating food prepared by others. Maybe wait until the hospitals start filling up with Corona cases?

“We’re gonna get the Bernie platform on the installment plan. No matter who is POTUS.”

Single-payer healthcare, also, most likely.

Man, is that a slippery slope.

In CA, they might get it. Because, under AB5, you’re either a paid serf or an illegal gig-worker.

The alternative, as your photo shows, is replacement by kiosk.

McDs employees bad attitude has a been contagious forever IMO. Haven’t set foot in one or spent my hard earned money there in a long time for that very reason.

Yup. Just waiting for the right crisis to not go to waste (a wave of hospital closings or a BCBS going belly-up most likely)

Believe I’ll cook burgers at home for the time being, as if fast food joints weren’t unhygienic to begin with.

I’ve tried to avoid fast food, but when I indulge it’s usually at my local Burger King, where I honestly have to say I’ve found the employees to be friendly, hard-working and polite.

Frightening numbers of tattoos and piercings, but friendly and polite.

Around here, Culvers is definitely the Lexus of fast food.
Not the cheapest by any means, but the place is immaculately clean and the youts laboring look like old school America.

I think Trump would go along with it. There’s going to be a lot of people put out of work by this and a lot of people with huge doctor & hospital bills to deal with.

I very, very rarely eat other than food prepared at home.

Home prepared food is always cleaner, healthier and cheaper

And 2 cups of coffee, much better than Starbunks.

Excellent and total cost was less than $5.
