U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that it's not the right time to put additional travel restrictions on South Korea over the coronavirus.
Trump was asked at a White House press briefing whether he is considering restricting travel to and from South Korea, Italy and other countries affected by COVID-19.
"At a right time we may do it," the president said. "Right now it's not the right time, but at a right time."
South Korea has seen a rapid increase in the number of coronavirus cases, with nearly 1,200 infections and 12 deaths as of Wednesday.
The U.S. State Department raised its travel advisory for South Korea from Level 1 to Level 2 on Saturday, urging travelers to exercise increased caution.
Two days later, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued its highest travel health notice for the country, recommending that Americans avoid all nonessential travel there.
Then on Wednesday the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command announced it is restricting all nonessential travel to South Korea by all military, civilians and contractors under its authority.

I feel like he’s in over his head, that really worries me, he is not taking charge, he’s hanging out in the back, we’re screwed it would seem.
Interesting, as I have an Air Force family member who’s headed over there in May/June.
And Pence might lead some nice meetings and get a few things going here or there, but obviously hasn’t got on top of it, the CDC, etc., OR informed the president sufficiently of the situation on the ground.
Also, have you heard our squeaky voiced cipher of a surgeon general? As I said yesterday, he sounds like the Marco Rubio of Surgeon Generals. If you didn’t know better, you might guess him to be a first-year med student.
The outbreaks in France, Spain, and Germany are caused by retuning travelers from Italy who are asymptomatic when infecting others.
This infectivity period may last weeks, without symptoms.
You are completely correct, the flights should have stopped three weeks ago (and of course South Korea, too).
And if WE feel that way, just imagine how it looks and sounds to the Orange Man Bad crowd. He already gave the cronies at the top of the CDC their, “You’re doing a great job, Brownie!”
More foreign governments are moving to restrict entry from coronavirus-hit South Korea, with the tally reaching 81 as of Monday.

But not us because? KIA?
The only way I see Trump winning re-election now is taking control, stepping up, running everything himself, cancelling flights from all countries, fast tracking supplies.
A lot of people are going to die now because we didn’t stop flights coming in from Italy. He should have learned from Seattle that the long incubation period makes waiting “too late”.
When my mom and my sisters are dead, which could well be the case, I might be looking for a new direction come November. It might not be too late, but he would literally have to act within the next few days and I don’t see it happening. Like I said, he stepped into the background. You don’t have to be an expert, all of us know what needs done, what a shame.
I have a (not immediate) young adult family member who was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday. Doc said didn’t think CV and didn’t test for it. I am hoping they will insist, if only for peace of mind.
Prayers up for a quick recovery, hopefully it’s not CV but your family is in good hands.
Waaaaaaahhhh!!!
Thank you.
Apparently "right time" to hold breath is n hours.
I wouldn't put all the blame on the President. We elect a top executive who is supposed to have competent advisors. We can't elect an epidemiologist-in-chief dictator. Whoever the president is has to rely on our seemingly apathetic and corrupt institutions, and the blame has to go down to those bureaucrats.
But blame won't save lives, hygiene and quarantine of ADEQUATE DURATION with God's help may save lives.
Yes, not happy with his decision on this and the work visas.
Total of 5 CV and 10 in self isolation around Houston, TX. All traveled to Egypt so now to find everyone else in the travel group. One of the group, a research assistant, works at Rice Univ. (in Houston) so 14 people around him are in isolation. Don’t know if the letter that went out from a high school there is one of the self isolation folk.
Six at University of Houston are in self isolation after traveling to Italy and SK. Two more students are coming back from traveling and will self isolate.
Univ. of TX at San Antonio are bringing their 70 folks back from Italy and theyll be in isolation. Lackland AFB still has 11 cases but dont know how may others are still in quarantine.
The world needs to stop international travel for two weeks but no leader has the guts to step up to the ball.
Just don’t understand why Pence is the lead messenger. Dr. Fausi or Surgeon General should have been in this position.
Have you heard the Surgeon General speak? Seems like a nice guy, but inspires no confidence at all.
And I am glad he hasn’t left it totally in the hands of the corrupt CDC—though I’m not sure we’re seeing much benefit otherwise. Still, it is not their role to coordinate and oversea all the logistics and issues of other affected agencies and departments.
This is a time when someone with a military logistics background would have been useful. My lib family is hearing all kinds of stories now of the difficulties here getting someone tested—and the ease and efficiency with which it has been handled by some other countries. Really NOT a good look for this admin.
Since youre supposedly a Trump supporter, I find it very curious that youre talking about voting for someone else in November because you think hes failing on one issue. Id love to know who you think would do a better job containing a worldwide pandemic, which no country in the world has apparently succeeded at doing.
