For the third year in a row, NJ Gov. Phil Murphy has proposed big increases to more than a dozen gun fees in New Jersey.

Murphy’s push for higher fees in his proposed state budget follows a series of bills he’s signed adding new restrictions to gun laws that were already some of the toughest in the nation.

Murphy is asking lawmakers to raise the cost of a $2 gun application to $50, and a firearm ID card from $5 to $100, according to the state’s treasury department.

The Democratic governor also proposed a 2.5% tax on firearms and a 10% tax on ammunition.

Murphy said Tuesday that raising the cost of handgun permits especially would improve public safety.

"Let us hope our weapons are never needed - but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny.

If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government - and a few outlaws.

I intend to be among the outlaws." ~ Edward Abbey

Murphy said Tuesday that raising the cost of handgun permits especially would improve public safety.

Great idea, then criminals won't be able to afford to buy guns.

People in NJ live under tyranny. It’s time they do something about it.

Freedom lovers in NJ need to hit back hard on this.

This is a poll tax on self defense. It can have no purpose other than to disarm inner city black folks in places like Newark, Camden, and Trenton, the people who need guns for self defense the most. Gov. Murphy would be right at home in the Jim Crow South with policies like this.

is it constitutional to tax people out of their rights to own something?

It’s a tax on the exercise of Constitutionally guaranteed Rights.

I think the citizens of NJ may agree with this tax, if in kind constraints are placed on voting say, only *taxpaying citizens that pass an American History citizen literacy test.

* with obvious exemptions

I think the fees were linked to the original New Jersey Pistol Purchase Permit/Firearm Purchaser ID law, which immediately pre-dated the Gun Control Act of 1968.

The permits and ID cards probably cost local police departments much more to process than they are collecting in fees.

(It's giving New Jersey ammo buyers who stock up whenever they visit Pennsylvania a 10% discount. AND FREE SHIPPING! Pennsylvania dealers should send him a Thank You.)

...”Murphy said Tuesday that raising the cost of handgun permits especially would improve public safety.”

I don’t know how people can live in a state such as New
Jersey (my wife is originally from the Central New Jersey
area but she left there many, many years ago and never
looked back....)...this is total BS... thinly disguised
efforts to get rid of guns, ammo, shooting ranges, gun
stores, gun shows, and, eventually, those who own and
shoot the guns...!! “It’s all for the greater good....”

The outlaws far outnumber the gov’t.

NJ, like the many other commie/socialist/fascist/leftist-dominated states and cities, will not change. They are thoroughly-infiltrated and changed forever.

What other constitutional rights can the government tax us to exercise? When do they implement the free speech tax?
