So what if you don’t like the conditions in the hospital? Where else are you going to go? This hospital is the last (and only) stop. You can’t opt for another place and then just pay out of your own pocket. The government has capped financial upward mobility. There is now “income equality.” And that means nobody has the means to buy their way into a different (or better) situation. And even if you could, one doesn’t exist. The state provides it all. You’re stuck.

“...Split pants are (or at least were, back then) pants the children wear that are open in the crotch area. That allows them to urinate or defecate unobstructed, onto the street or wherever they may be....”

and

“...we would experience the amazing culture of China, in several different cities. And some things stood out to this germophobic American. I watched a man hock up something from his chest and spit it on the floor, right next to us, in a restaurant. ...”

Yeah... that SURE is an “amazing culture” they have there...

Crapping and urinating in the streets, and chunking lungers in a restaurant.

Hey! I Got an idea! Let’s Bring it HERE!!!!!!!

Oh, wait... we already have San Francisco. Never mind.

He’s right. Nazi Germany had universal single payer healthcare too. At least until the Nuremberg laws excluded Jews.

Very good read and yet, there are 705 billionaires in the United States, 285 in China, 146 in Germany, 102 in Russia, and 97 in the United Kingdom.

This should be required reading for every literate left-leaning individual in our nation. Those who need it most will never see it.

We were there a few years ago on a tour and most of the toilets were holes in the ground you squat over. You walk through urine and other stuff and no toilet paper (take your own we were told). Where’s the sink to wash we ask. Response is a head shake no.
On the streets people sell live frogs hopping in netted bags, some small live turtles in some for food. My friend warned me not to go down one street because there were sad dogs in cages. No birds in big cities due to pollution.
Medical care consists of herbal teas and ground up weeds of some kind. And we sit and wonder how this ever started in China?

But if you don’t like the state of healthcare in this country, just remember that not ONE Republican has their fingerprints on it. NOT. ONE. Your current state of healthcare was voted on unanimously and signed into law by DEMOCRATS only.

I guess it make some people feel better to delude themselves this way.

Our current healthcare system has developed over the last 80 years under both Democrats and Republicans.

Sure, the ACA only had Dem support but it really only addressed the way insurance is purchased in a small part of the market and expanded Medicaid.

The vast bulk of our healthcare system, including the delivery and employer-provided insurance, wasn't really changed.

As I read about him sloshing about in China, my mind drifted to San Francisco. Maybe things aren’t quite as bad in San Francisco as they are in China, but give it time.

Started out with good description.

This “Why would a Communist country not have an effective FDA?” was a weird comment which presumes communism is moral.

It began to meander greatly after that.

“She was missing a piece of her 15th maternal chromosome.”

How would this be known unless they also looked at the genetics of the biological parents of their adopted child.

That's completely untrue.

The "current state" is going to collapse. It is the logical 50 year outcome of Medicare and Medicaid.

What is about to happen was predicted by anyone with a brain who was opposed to Medicare in 1965 (Medicaid is more complicated).

The decision to adopt fixed pricing by diagnosis code FOR HOSPITALIZATION ONLY, which has led to enormous and corrupt rent seeking and profit taking by corporations that can sell to the socialized hospital market and which is the destructive force that will bring down our system was imposed in 1985-86 by an all-GOP White House and cabinet.

Here's Ronald Reagan's speech about how Medicare would eventually bring about a socialist dictatorship.

He was correct.
