Bad weather can render the cameras and lidar on self-driving cars useless. Researchers at MIT suggest ground-penetrating radar as the fix.

That's a great idea. Will only add about twenty-eight thousand dollars to the price of a car.
I remember when I Was taking 300 hours of graphics and msft suite courses 25 years ago and driving a cab at night.
Another cab driver who lost his programming job to stop wasting my time because computers would be able to do and create whatever you tell them just by talking out loud to it.
And ALL administrative assistants were wasting their time because there was a already a program to let you just talk and the computer would just type away.
To this day, I know of NO investment bank or lawfirm that primarily or even as a secondary use, talks up a document and sends it out.
Maybe driverless cars will be different. I don’t know
They’re gonna come up with some gizmo that is easily implanted into roads that solves this aND the definition of “hick town” will be anywhere that you have to actually drive your car yourself.
They won’t.
I don’t think so either.
They now have AI written stock market articles.
They are SO POORLY written and make such LITTLE sense that I avoid them altogether now.
Read like drunk 6 year olds wrote them.
Has your computer ever froze or crashed? Have you ever experienced a computer bug? Why the hell would anyone place their life in the hands of a computer controlled car?
First they lost the ability to drive stick shift.
Soon they lose the ability to steer, LOL.
Autonomous cars will not drive in conditions that many humans would risk driving in and result in accidents.
Tort lawyers will be our primary defense against vehicle automation.
Bro they’ll have to pull my cold dead hands from my Challenger steering wheel.
And what about hacking?
My BIL is filthy rich and bought a 120k BMW 7 series.
It’s a Great car but I wasn’t impressed with the auto drive...as we kept almost immediately swerving into the other lane!!
But you can make the volume louder by moving your finger in the air.
That’s worth something :)
I think it’s 700 HP THAT’S awesome
True.
Tort lawyers will be our primary defense against vehicle automation.
...
I’m sure the same thing was said about the horseless carriage.
Globally, 3600 die every day from traffic accidents.
When is someone just going to come out and say this is a really bad idea.
I remember those days!! It was called a Dictaphone!
(OK, Boomer)
You know I was wondering why they done use the wire guided systems for this. The equipment has been around for years. Embed the track line down the center of the lane the cars guide off that. Millions are being spent on this sort of tech when there are simple solutions that could be used today. Maybe its just me bucking the system but autonomous solutions are not ready for prime time and neither are we.
Tells the car where the road is, but not where anything else that might be on the road is
I’ve almost lost the ability to find a stickshift car. I remember when dealers still had them.
