The coronavirus that emerged from Wuhan, China, last year is causing alarm across the world, with fear that this could become the next pandemic. Late last month, the World Health Organization declared the virus, named COVID-19, a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern" and urged an immediate international response.
It advised its member states to put in place national preparedness plans and procedures for identifying and responding to any COVID-19 cases that might present. The death toll of more than 2,600 people far exceeds that of the SARS outbreak nearly 17 years ago.

I thought my numbers were “concluded/resolved cases” that were verified by hospital diagnosis and the deaths were from those who died in hospital care. Shouldn’t that give a good statistical representation of the mortality rate?
We’ve got 6w of food/supplies set aside. Just in case.
Otherwise we’re keeping an eye on things.
We ARE avoiding crowds and making sure to do our shopping very very early in the morning.
____________
Some things are still a mystery to me.
For instance you write: Progressivism is like the spoiled, inept STEPCHILD who threatens to take over the farm of his upbringing and turn it into the crackhouse of his demise.
Why do you choose to characterize the Progressive as a stepchild? In your limited time on earth have you found stepchildren to be of little or no quality?
Reading your words shows to me an individual who thinks he has all the answers and of course does not. None of us do.
But sermonizing folks who claim to have the answers may need to ask more questions and listen more closely.
True observation is education.

Have a pleasant week, and please pray for our good President.
Right, no one knows what’s goin going on in China. They put 50 million people under quarantine and then added stricter quotas on a portion of them.
Among some, only one family member is allowed to go out every three days to obtain food and then must return home.
It’s difficult to imagine.
I”m discussing this with several people, so let me review.
It was my take you were using the deaths against the number of cases documented.
If you’re using the formula below, I may have misunderstood.
deaths divide by deaths + recovered
Yes it is.
That sounds like good common sense behavior to me. I wish there were more of that!
according to some that’s panicking.
We also did a short rundown of things that would be...inconvenient...if we couldn’t get them immediately. Mainly parts for the car (belts, filters, windshield wipers, brake pads) and small electrnics we had been considering getting already. I got a small one of the oster food processors. The teeny one. I had one years ago but burned it up making baby food for the kidz.
I confess I got 2 bottles of dish detergent. P&G said their supply chains might be affected. So if there’s a shortage it’s my fault. I confess.
You’d think what we’d done was equivalent to buying a bunker and a hundred thousand dollars of freeze dried preps LOL.
muh panic/etc.
On one hand, they criticize a perceived lack of action. On the other, they criticize any attempt to limit/monitor travel from affected locations as racist. At some point, they don’t have a rational argument, they just want to blame and scream.
I divided the confirmed deaths by the total confirmed cases, before they became deaths, which would be what you wrote, the numbers of those who died + the numbers diagnosed with the illness, but recovered. Getting the number of the whole population affected is a part of a good statistical analysis.
People are just stupid about these things. I keep in mind that anarchy is only a few days away from an interrupted food supply.
I also have a hand pumped water purifier that can take just about everything but some chemicals out of the water, so I can go down to the nasty river near me if I had to to get water to drink if there were no firewood available.
Don’t let the panic stricken sheep dissuade you.
Proper prepping prevents panic.
What if Ive been a stepchild myself?
When you judge a person as one who thinks he has all the answers, what criteria do you use?
Im not asking you to tell me your feelings about the person. Im asking if you ever use objective criteria.
But to make things easy for you, lets characterize your comments for what they are with a question:
Have you ever read a poster who doesnt believe his or her own posts?
You appear to be a somewhat thoughtful person tightly bound inside your own perspective. The result is you may have limited success completely relating to others.
NOW PLEASE PAY ATTENTON
YOU WROTE: "What if Ive been a stepchild myself?"
I ask you. What possible good would it do for me to answer that question?
I asked you earlier, "why do you choose to characterize the Progressive as a stepchild?
In your time on earth have you found stepchildren to be of little or no quality?" You wrote: Progressivism is like the spoiled, inept STEPCHILD who threatens to take over the farm of his upbringing and turn it into the crackhouse of his demise.
Now just try to answer the question. Ready? Here is the question:
Why do you characterize the Progressive as a stepchild, a spoiled, inept STEPCHILD who threatens to take over the farm of his upbringing and turn it into the crackhouse of his demise?
Just answer that question, and don't try to avoid it by asking your inane question: "What if Ive been a stepchild myself?"
Whether you are a stepchild has nothing to do with the question I asked you.
Why do you characterize the Progressive as a stepchild, a spoiled, inept STEPCHILD who threatens to take over the farm of his upbringing and turn it into the crackhouse of his demise?
Do you have a gripe about stepchildren?
And ....... if you indeed have been a stepchild yourself, do you have a deep sense of self-hatred?
If you do have that misguided sense, you shouldn't.
Attacking my “about page” comments is evidence that your primary agenda is to attack me, the person. I forgive you for it, though.
Now, as I point out, progressives are like a spoiled stepchild. Not stepchildren. Stepchild.
Why do you take one spoiled, crack-addicted stepchild and then assume all stepchildren are like that?
You seem to have something against all stepchildren.
(Maybe next time listen to your voices?)
