The US conducted a military exercise last week which simulated a limited nuclear exchange with Russia, a senior Pentagon official has confirmed.
The war game is notable because of the defence departments highly unusual decision to brief journalists about the details and because it embodied the controversial notion that it might be possible to fight, and win, a battle with nuclear weapons, without the exchange leading to an all-out world-ending conflict.

If we do this, we are “war-mongers”.
If we don’t do this, we are “unprepared”.
If we talk about this, we are “saber-rattling”.
If we don’t talk about this, we are “keeping secrets”.
We’re really briefing reporters now on military defense practices?
“Shall we play a game?”
Mr. President, I’m not saying we wouldn’t get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.
Oh, George C Scott's finest roll.
Were really briefing reporters now on military defense practices?
********
Or, is a message being sent to our potential foreign adversaries.
If it was a war game, then there was no war with Russia. It was an exercise, which the military does all the time. The guardian is full of a$$wholes.
I only trust reporters, they care.
Yep Ol George was good. But I loved Slim Pickens:
Survival kit contents check. In them you’ll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days’ concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella’ could have a pretty good weekend in DALLAS with all that stuff.
Who won?

A leak becomes a briefing?
Deterrence doesn’t work if the other guy doesn’t know anything about your capabilities.
Was thinking the same thing... Yank this guy/gal’s creds and show them the door. What the hell is going on with this country?
No one wins, the very idea that a nuclear exchange would stay limited is nonsense
Once it starts the rest happens and the world as we know it ends
Period
Trial balloon floated by the usual sources pitting US against Russia
As if we both do not have better things to do than start a war and destroying it all
Muh Russia alert by the “Progressives”
The silver people on the shoreline
My SIL was in in that. He told me that his single unit won the war and he was going to get an imaginary bronze star.
I told him I used to play guns as a kid. I shot a bunch of Indians.
