OKLAHOMA CITY The University of Oklahoma released a statement Monday after a history teacher read during class from a historical document that used a racial slur.
Interim OU President Joseph Harroz said the faculty member read from a historical document that repeatedly used the N-word. He said the professor issued a trigger warning before reading but agreed that the word never should have been used.

Sadly, the “use - mention” distinction is a lost concept. No one understands the difference between mentioning a word in a sentence about its role as a word, versus using it as a term/sign for someone.
Add another critical mental skill to the lost brigade along with illiteracy, innumeracy, and the lack of comprehension of analogic thinking. Was Chris Matthews labeling Bernie as Hitler or was he employing an analogy to a stunningly lightning-fast and successful military campaign?
Words have become magical, in a bad way.
Same as New Orleans. Well into the 90s
“Wop” salad was an item on most menus
in the restaurants.
Also I was called a “kraut” & “Nazi” in grammar
school(late 60s) because of my German heritage; 20 years after the end of the war.
Who do I report that to?
To open this afternoon’s discussion of the Hip Hop legacy; Let me quote from the Snoop Dog classic Gz up, hoes down...
Later at the hospital “Was it something I said?”
Remember how David Boren creamed all over himself over the drunken frat boys party bus?
For anyone who has read the whole article (I will not disable my ad blocker), do they ever identify the document in question?
“Trigger” rhymes with The Word That Shall Not Be Spoken, and it also makes people think of big evil black guns that kill people. So we need a warning before the trigger warning.
If you go to any In your city area, youll hear used consistently among themselves or part of every song within the current rap music industry. But certainly a non-black person uses said word, and it is the most racist thing to happen that day. You cant have it both ways.
Ha, ha, I like that! The Tulsa Squirrel. Since we didn’t have a puppy or a bird, we never bought the Tulsa Squirrel when we lived in the area.
Then they stopped delivery this far out.....Don't get a Newspaper anymore...Oh, the small rural town nearby..has one...but it's pretty useless.
Yeah I clued in on the Tulsa Squirrel early on...Twas surprised at the very liberal slant...
Same here. We don’t get a paper here in Iowa, either. The Des Moines Register is awful as are all the local TV news broadcasts. It’s too bad, because I always enjoyed reading a daily paper, and I miss out on any local news they slip in between their crappy leftist stories.
Oh, the hypocrisy of the Left. This past weekend my wife and I were walking through a Walmart parking lot when a young man drove by. His music was thumpin’ nice and loud, and we heard the word nigger probably ten times before he was out of earshot. Guess it’s OK for rap music? What if Eminem said it?
Wait til the OU students figure out what the word “Oklahoma” means.
Sorry, I missed the Gabby Johnson reference. Being that is one of my favorite films, I should have known better.
I was more bothered by the fact that historical events are constantly being “updated” to fit the current mindset by these f’in snowflakes, rather than show things as they were and assess if we’re more “enlightened” or just too self-absorbed today. Personally, I vote for the latter.
Why do we let morons tell us what words we can’t use?
It’s not our fault that they don’t understand the meaning of some words, e.g., niggardly or they imagine some words have a meaning that isn’t there e.g., thugs. It’s not our fault that they think Sambo is African and is a slur against blacks.
My father and I read it everyday!!
Just something about reading a real paper...
When I moved here....the Investors Business Daily still delivered a paper...Not any more...
I don't watch T.V. Get most of my "news" on-line....
I still do see crappy Socialist crap...but don't read it. Why should I? Ha!!
Nice to speak with you.........
Yes it is but, O U SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
{Oklahoma State University graduate 1973. We had bedlam with OU before anyone had even heard of UT! LOL}
Oh, man, when I was a kid my hair was strawberry blonde. Got teased every day of my life for my “red” hair. Then as I got SUPER OLD my hair faded to blonde. And all of a sudden instead of red hair temper I am supposed to have suddenly become stupid, with all the old N word jokes, dumb pollack jokes, dumb aggie jokes recycled to be dumb blonde jokes. Same jokes, different victim. I have heard people pick on my beautiful blonde HydroGeologist daughter for being dumb blonde. She is too polite but often feels like sayind, “I took advanced Calculus, Differential equations, Thermal Dynamics, Algebra, geometry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, etc.... “ And she had to make GOOD GRADES, not just “passing” grades in her field. People assume we are dumb due to blonde hair. My dad, father in law, older sister, mom, and husband all blondes. Husband was Chemical Engineer. Father in law was Petrochemical engineer in the 1940s. Smarties! Crazy being judged for skin or hair color! But now you only can’t make fun of blacks.
Was great!! Had a great time..!!
I root for both OSU and OU...when they ain't playing each other. Otherwise..I'm an OU fan.
Lot's of Oklahoman's the same way as I....
And vice versus....
The complainers were most likely white liberals.
